Try not to breathe

Round 13: Days 61-65
Narrated by Mina Lachance

Look how big Jonas is! Our baby boy just turned 1!

Pascal and I try to share the load with Jonas but lately, much of it has been falling to me. This means I'm usually the one to put him to bed. He goes off happily enough but then he'll wake up cranky an hour later.

Jonas causes mischief when he's awake too! Whenever we can't find him in the apartment, it's usually because he's crawled out the door, trying to get downstairs to the stereo (he loves music!). Thankfully, he can't walk yet and definitely can't negotiate spiral stairs!

I've started working nights so I've been spending my days sleeping. Pascal has been taking a bigger role with Jonas, which is nice. They didn't get much bonding time in when he was a baby.

Check us out being all domestic and stuff! Who would have thought?! Not me, that's for sure. I'm getting a bit restless with all this domesticity, actually. I think I missed out on going to clubs and picking up lots of guys because I met Pascal when I was so young.

Perhaps there'd be time for that later, once Pascal and I were done with baby making. We were going to stop and let Jonas be an only child but we decided we'd really like just one more.

I probably should have let Pascal get his TV dinner out of the oven before I enticed him into the bedroom though. Thank goodness we have a smoke detector because we had no idea about the fire until we heard it go off.

Of course, the smoke detector woke The Boy Who Never Sleeps.

He insisted on a bottle before he'd go back to sleep.

Then Pascal put him back to bed and he was screaming again within an hour! Someone remind me why we want another one! I just found out I'm pregnant again and I really hope Jonas's little sibling sleeps better than him. This kid's lungs are unbelievable!

I tell Pascal that I'm bored at home but I've discovered a love of video games while I've been on maternity leave. They've been keeping me busy and entertained. But it's a secret!

I think Jonas might be taking after me in the hobby department. We wanted to buy him an activity table but there was no way we'd fit it in our apartment (Reason #45, 643 that we need to move) so we got him this music thingy instead. The other day, I caught him trying to open it up to see what was inside. So we might have a little tinkerer on our hands! And look how cute he is when he's not screaming!

Yup, there's definitely a baby in there! Not long now!

I swear, we forget to pay the rent every single Monday and Mr. Atkins always has to come and knock on our door for it the next morning. We really should make a better effort to remember. It's really cheap, for some reason, and one of the landlord's friends recently got us a further discount on our rent. We've been very lucky.

But like I said, we need to move. What you can see here is pretty much our entire apartment. There's a teeny bathroom behind me and two teeny bedrooms behind those doors. But that's it. We need to move.

Yay! Jonas is now 5! Hopefully this means he'll sleep through the night. And he's a pretty handsome little man, if I do say so myself! He looks very much like his dad did when he was a kid.

Notes:
  • I almost wrote as Pascal but changed my mind at the last minute. Maybe next time.
  • One reason Jonas kept waking up all the time was the noisy neighbours. I moved the potty against the wall and that blocked some of the sound but he still woke up a lot, for reasons I (and Mina!) can't fathom. Hopefully the next one won't give them (and me!) as much trouble.
  • As always, you can see a nice close-up of Jonas as a child in his profile.

Too careful

Round 13: Days 61-65
Ever since our daughters left home for university, Floyd and I have been enjoying our increased privacy.

Unfortunately, there was still that pesky thing known as employment getting in the way of us having fun all the time. It'd be nice if Elias would send a nicer car to pick up his manager. That might make the ride to work a little more tolerable.

We've started to suspect Debbie might be partaking in some illegal substances on campus. She calls the house at all hours asking to speak to Linnea. Who lives in the same dorm as Debbie. It's very odd.

Floyd is still plugging away at the drums, for all the good it does him. He's still just a roadie. He doesn't seem to realise that he needs to work on his charisma to make it in his industry. His talent is unquestioned but his people skills leave something to be desired.

Maybe if he finally got promoted he'd stop bringing these weirdos home from work. I could really do without people like this guy hanging around all the time.

Every time I start to wonder why we stay together though, he reminds me.

Floyd's been bothering that Nihill woman next door again though. He should probably watch out because her husband doesn't like it. He actually asked me to speak to Floyd about it. I will but it was kind of funny to watch a man in his early 60s try to impress a woman more than 30 years younger than him with terrible dance moves.

I was attempting to get some reading done one afternoon (nothing interesting - boring stuff for work) when I heard the stereo turn on outside.

I looked out and it was my little brother Galen! Not so little anymore, really, as he's in his mid 40s. I don't know how he got out there without me seeing him. He must have jumped the fence because the only other way to get out there is through the apartment and I would have noticed that!

It didn't matter anyway. I hadn't seen him in a while and was thrilled to catch up for a while. We weren't that close as kids (he was closer to Xanthia than to me) but since we've grown up, we've become a lot tighter.

There he goes again. He's lucky they don't report him to the landlord.

Despite having more time to spend with Floyd, I'm still missing my daughters while they're away. I hear from both of them frequently, luckily but I wish they'd look at the time before they call. Athena called at 1:45 the other night (or the other morning, more accurately) and I'm sure she heard me yawning!

I have to give Floyd a bit of credit here because he's actually been trying to mend some fences lately. I think he should give up on the landlord and focus on poor Maria Collins. That landlord doesn't like anyone but maybe Floyd hasn't yet burned all his bridges with Maria.

Did I mention that we have a slight wolf problem in our lobby? Yeah, neither did the landlord. Most of the residents are frightened of them and scurry into the elevator or their apartment when they see them but Floyd goes right up to them. They literally eat out of his hand!

Athena has been telling us about Adam, her new boyfriend and we were both keen to meet him, so all the kids (ours, plus Adam and Debbie) came over for dinner recently. I was somewhat surprised to hear about Adam because while she was in high school, Athena was dead set on snaring Filippo. Then she did, and then they broke up. I suppose girls can still be pretty fickle at that age.

Not Linnea though. I would never have thought she'd stick to the one girl for so long but she and Debbie have been together since high school and are still going strong!

Adam was lucky Floyd wasn't yet home from work. No one was allowed to touch his drums except Floyd. And Athena, if she asked him nicely first!

I was so happy watching Linnea interacting with her dad, once he got home. Their relationship has always been so iffy and poor Linnea used to try so hard to get his attention. I'm glad they're getting along now.

Not so for Adam and Floyd though.

Floyd liked Adam just fine but Adam was completely baffled by Floyd and is still a bit standoffish with him.

Notes:
  • I love how Drusilla looks like she's trying to cover her face and sneak by Mohawk Man (who is, by the way, the same weirdo who barged into Ottilie's bedroom to dance while she was a kid).
  • I am still stumped as to how Galen managed to get by Drusilla for his hula dancing without going through the apartment. Sims can't jump fences, can they? LOL. Maybe they can when we're not looking!
  • Floyd gets the want to visit Caterina all the time. It's a little creepy. Look at him just standing at the door.
  • Floyd started a fight with Maria (again) but I missed the picture. So it was only alluded to in Drusilla's entry.

More of the high school

Still working on the high school, so I haven't really played properly. I'm due to play Pascal and Mina next and will probably get on that tomorrow.

In the meantime, here are some more pictures of the school:

The stairs, leading to the completely empty second floor. There's a classroom on the left and a workshop on the right (robot and toy crafting stations in there).

Hallway with the library at the end, and classrooms on either side. There are pupil tokens visible here but I plan to move them to the attic (and thank you, simstate, for the tip - I used SimCategoriser to recategorise all the tokens and controllers and it worked beautifully!).

Sullivan (or Exeter) High School

I haven't decided which yet. It's in Exeter but the main hood is called Sullivan and everyone will go here. So I'm still tossing up on the name but here it is.

The teens from Sullivan and Exeter will all attend here. High school is grades 7-12 in Australia (we don't have middle school), so all teens will go here. I'm planning on building a primary school (or rather, making a copy of this school and modifying it) too. That will be in Sullivan and will be for all children.

All mine

Round 13: Days 61-65
Narrated by Ben Nihill

It took us long enough but Caterina and I finally found an apartment we were happy with. It's in Exeter and has 2 beds and 2 baths. We weren't planning on kids just yet but the second bedroom would come in handy for something.

Take me down

Round 13: Days 61-65

Narrated by Araminta Benton.

I wouldn't say this week had been the most exciting week ever. The sky has been grey almost every single day and it is so depressing. I miss summer - it's so far away.

Little dawn

Round 13: Days 61-65

Raines was not having a good week. He started a kitchen fire by trying to make some waffles while he still had some croissants in the oven.

It was a better week for Maria. She was promoted to relic liberator and got to come home early as a bonus.

She used her unexpected free time to invite her boyfriend Filippo over.

They didn't get to spend much time together because within minutes of Filippo's arrival, Emil had come home from school.

Emil didn't seem very surprised at all to see Filippo at his house but James Novak was a little curious.

Once James went home, Emil sat down next to Filippo and told him all about school, as if he'd known him all his life.

Emil was enjoying the chat so much it was hard for Maria to convince him to go to bed but finally he did, and Filippo and Maria could share some private time.

The next morning, Maria suspected she would have a lasting reminder of their "private time".

She still had to go to work though and the nanny hadn't shown up, so she asked Filippo to watch Emil.

He was a bit nervous about babysitting, considering the stories he'd heard from Raines but as it turned out, Emil was all tuckered out by 4pm and napped right up until his mother got home.

Maria's belly was getting bigger and it was time to tell Emil about the impending arrival.

Especially seeing she'd just learned she would be having twins!

To her surprise, Emil was thrilled!

Filippo was excited too. He and Maria hadn't moved in together yet but that was definitely on the horizon in the future.

Maria did wish Adam would stop coming over so often. When Adam was there, Filippo spent much of his time playing video games, which Maria found rather boring. Not to mention the in jokes she didn't really understand. Hopefully, it would stop once the twins arrived.

Which was sooner rather than later. Maria tried to call Filippo when she felt the signs of early labour but his answering machine said he'd be working until 8.

So she gave birth with the help of Raines and Emil instead. Welcome to the neighbourhood, Caleb Samuel...

...and David Reuben!

Random pic:
I love how pregnant Sims can't have pillow fights but for some reason, they have no difficulty doing this. I don't think I could do this now! Emil is 11!

Notes:
  • Filippo and Maria tried for a baby on their own. I was going to wait until I moved Filippo in (they don't have the want to marry yet) but she would have been 40 by then and it might have been difficult. She got pregnant with no trouble this time, so maybe she had a feeling her biological clock was ticking.
  • Maria has put on a few pounds. She doesn't seem to mind (no wants to exercise or get fit), so neither do I. ;)
  • Maria suddenly spun up the want to invite Filippo over a couple of hours before she gave birth. I thought that was very cute and realistic.
