Fly trapped in a jar

Round 23: Summer 2017
Georgette Clarke is 77, Lake Draper is 60, Kendal is 41, Patience is 15, Calvin and Troy are both 14 and Christopher is 2.
(Rose is 22, Jacob Weaver is 16, Maia Novak is 15, Aaron Novak is 14)
Of everyone in the Clarke-Draper household, Galen's death hit Georgette the hardest. It wasn't surprising, considering she and Galen had been together since she was 14. Losing your partner of 63 years isn't something you can easily recover from.

Galen Clarke, 1938-2017

by Abigail Carmody, Summer 2017

Galen Clarke, lifetime resident of Exeter, died last night in his sleep of natural causes. He was 79.

He leaves behind his wife Georgette, 77, and 14 year-old grandsons Calvin and Troy. Galen and Georgette's son Samson died in 2005 after a long illness at the age of 32. Galen also had a son and a daughter from previous relationships and had an additional 5 grandchildren from them.

Galen Clarke was born in 1938 to Nelson, a city planner and Gina Clarke, a legal secretary. He grew up in Exeter with his two older sisters, Drusilla and Xanthia. He had a lifelong passion for fitness and developed a love of music after picking up the guitar in high school.

(Georgette is 74, Kirstin is 31 and Camilla and Lila are both 1)

Narrated by Owen Novak

I didn't get a promotion. Again. I work my ass off at that firm and I'm still only a paralegal. Naomi says she doesn't care but I feel like I should be able to contribute to our family a lot more than I do.

The Clarke-Draper wedding

It's autumn in Sullivan, which means Lake Draper and Kendal Clarke's wedding day has finally arrived. They've gathered all of their family at the town hall for the ceremony.

A shot in the arm

Round 21: Spring 2013

Galen Clarke is 75, Georgette is 73, Lake Draper is 56, Kendal is 37, Patience is 11 and Calvin and Troy are both 10.
(Rose is 18)

Narrated by Lake Draper

When Kendal moved in with me this spring, I was expecting there to be some teething problems with Kendal's boys Troy and Calvin and my daughter, Patience. But they're all still getting along famously, just like they did when we were living apart.

Two states

Round 21: Spring 2013
Last update: Max and Zaria/the rest
Next update: Olivia/the rest

Ben and Caterina Nihill are both 58, Max is 26, Olivia is 16 and Zaria Royce is 25.
(Georgette is 73, Eliot is 28, Amelia is 24, Wade is 23 and Cordy and Luc are both 20)

Narrated by Zaria Royce

After graduation, Max and I moved into his parents' house. We've been living here for almost 2 years now and I'm still overwhelmed sometimes at the sheer size of this place. The whole house must be ten times the size of my old house and their kitchen is bigger than my old bedroom!

Space boy

Round 21: Autumn 2013
last update/next update

Galen Clarke is 75, Georgette is 73, Kendal is 37 and Calvin and Troy are both 10.
(Lake Draper is 56 and Patience is 11)

Narrated by Kendal Clarke

Georgette recently managed to claw her way back up to the top at the law firm. Her superiors were really impressed with her dedication to mentoring the younger employees. They tend to get overloaded with the extra work no one else wants to do and Georgette is always willing to help them in her own time at home. It's nice to see her going off to work happy again.

(Wade is 21, Amelia Moretti is 22 and Georgette Clarke is 71.)

Narrated by Joanna Gottlieb

Dad has been thinking of buying a restaurant and he's fallen in love with one he took Mum to last year. It's called The Claudette. I don't know much about fancy restaurants but I hope Dad gets rid of all the staff when he buys it. It's terrible service, we were waiting forever for a table.

She came along to me

(Vivienne and Georgette are both 71, Owen is 34, Adrienne is 4 and Malcolm is 1.)

Narrated by David Sitko

She doesn't have any grandchildren to care for, or weddings to help plan any more so Collette has taken to hanging around in the front yard, waiting for someone to walk by.

Superstar

Round 20: Summer 2011

Galen Clarke is 73, Georgette is 71, Kendal is 35 and Calvin and Troy are both 8.
(Lake Draper is 54)

Narrated by Kendal Clarke

Georgette is one of the hardest working people I know but that didn't prevent her boss at the law firm forcing her to take a different position, for lower pay. Georgette thinks it might be because of her age but whatever the reason, she was distraught.

It's been a few years now since Samson's death and we finally decided to choose a picture to hang up. The boys were so young when he died and I want them to remember their dad.

Grace

Round 18: Days 86-90

Narrated by Kendal Clarke

Just as Samson had walked out the door to leave for work, I went into labour. I screamed for Samson to get back in the house - not only was he missing the birth of his children but he had also left a pot of soup boiling on the stove!

Sparks

Round 17: Days 81-85

Narrated by Kendal Kalson

I'm an amateur astronomer, so I'm usually outside with the telescope at night long after everyone else has gone to bed.

Kohoutek

Round 16: Days 76-80

Narrated by Samson Clarke

Yes, of course I'm still angry at Dad. You don't just get over stuff like that. You're probably wondering why I'm still living in the same house as him then. Well, basically, I think he's the one who should be ousted. Mum is not on board with that though, so we're all still together.

Round 15: Days 71-75

Narrated by Georgette Clarke

Galen and I have been doing pretty well lately.

Daysleeper

Round 14: Days 66-70

Narrated by Samson Clarke

Because my Dad is a rock god now, he brought home this awesome guitar from work! I can't wait until I'm old enough to play it. It's too heavy for me to even pick up right now, let alone play. But it does look really cool.

Women and unicorns

Round 13: Days 61-65
Galen thinks I don't know what he gets up to when I'm at work and Samson's at school. He's hardly discreet, so I don't know why he would assume that. Probably because I've never mentioned it to him.

I've known at least since Sam was a toddler but as long as he seems happy, I don't want to rock the boat. Sam is a very well-adjusted boy - he plays his violin and he brings his little friends home from school. He lives a very normal life. I don't want to do anything to upset that.

And he loves his Dad. I think it would break his heart if we broke up.

Crappy husband he may be but Galen is a good father to Sam.

And to be honest, as much as I resent Galen's cheating, I still love the guy too.

I've never actually seen Galen with another woman, so I can usually put it out of my mind when we're together. I can't help but be reminded of it when one of his many women has the nerve to call him at home. I certainly give them a piece of my mind then!

I'm sure it didn't stop them from dropping by when they knew I wasn't home though.

Sigh. I don't think this situation is ideal for any of us but for now but as long as it's all hidden from Sam and Galen has the decency to not flaunt his infidelity right in front of me, I guess this is the best we can do.

Notes:
  • Georgette does. not. care. about Galen's cheating. I thought it might be her Romance secondary (her autonomy is set to Spouse Only, if you were wondering) but no. Her jealousy setting is 2, which I believe means she should get jealous when anyone she's in love with cheats on her. But she doesn't. So I guess she's a stay-together-for-the-kids type of Sim.
  • Not an awful lot happened this round, which is why this is mostly Georgette's thoughts. Galen barely even had time to cheat! He actually did some work this round and got promoted all the way to Rock God.

Spring rain

Round 12: Days 56-60
Last update: Pascal/Mina

Not long after she and Pascal had moved in together, Mina decided she needed a holiday. It had been so hot in Exeter recently and the beach was not as appealing as it might normally be, so it was off to the mountains instead.
