Take it or leave it

Round 32: January 2035 (Summer)

Rebecca Kirby is 26 and Audrey Lachance is 23.
(Rob and Victoria are both 34, Nathan and Susannah are both 25, Julia is 24, Jack is 23 and Zac is 4 months old)
Narrated by Rebecca Kirby

A few months after Susannah got pregnant, she moved out and Audrey moved in. I was a little dubious, to be honest. I can't afford this rent on my own though, so I didn't have much choice.

Audrey is a close friend of Susannah's but she's not someone I ever really got to know. I don't always do well with new people. It takes me a long time to warm up.

I can't really complain about Audrey as a roommate though. She's quiet, she's tidy (and does the dishes even, which is more than I could say for Susannah most of the time, I have to admit) and we don't get in each other's way too much.

On a personal level, I would say we've been becoming friends as well, since we started living together.

Audrey's boyfriend is my cousin Jack, so it's possible she'll be family one day. That will be easier if we get along.

I think I see Jack more now than I did while I was growing up though, which is interesting.

Sometimes I miss having Susannah living here but it's not like she's that far away. The apartment she got with Sam is only a block away, so I still see her all the time.

She's still on maternity leave with Zac and doesn't go back until March. I can tell she's getting a bit bored on her own at home. If I call her and ask if she wants to come over, she jumps at the chance.

It gives her a break from the baby, seeing Audrey is only too happy to snuggle Zac for a little while.

Audrey and I have been telling her she should take a real break and come out for a couple of drinks with us. I've been saying it since Zac was two weeks old and she has yet to take me up on it.

Let Sam deal with the baby on his own for a night; Susannah does it every single day, so I'm sure he can more than handle it. She couldn't argue with that, so she agreed to come out with Audrey and I that Friday night.

It was a great chance to catch up without Susannah having to attend to Zac. Susannah said almost straight away that it was just what she needed to recharge a little.

She's been incredibly stressed lately. There's Zac, of course but she's also having problems with her mum.

Kimberly didn't exactly hit it off with Sam when Susannah first introduced them and Zac hasn't really improved that at all. They're both quite stubborn and aren't making any moves towards any sort of compromise.

I couldn't help but think of how my mother was with Finn, for a long long time. Although at least Finn was making an effort to bridge the gap during that time, even if Mum wasn't.

We had cause to celebrate that night, because of Audrey's new job. She was just cast in a music video, where she'll get to show off her ballet skills.

She's been teaching jazzercise classes since college, so she has her fingers crossed this is her big break.

We were all having an awesome time.

Until Julia Gray decided to show up and ruin everything, unfortunately.

She still isn't over Nathan dumping her and she's decided to take that all out on me. She's sweet as pie whenever Nathan is around, because she's still hoping he'll take her back.

So of course, as soon as she saw me, she started in on how I stole her boyfriend and I'm a dirty skank, et cetera.

I'm so over all of her bull, so I decided to give her a piece of my mind

Then, out of nowhere, Julia pulled out a drink and threw it in my face!

I could not believe it! Who does that?

I have a temper at the best of times but I've been known to lose it a little when I've had a bit too much to drink.

So I just turned around and clocked her one, right in the eye.

Of course, there had to be two cops in the bar at that very minute. They saw me punch Julia and hauled us both outside.

Turns out punching people is against the law and I had to go down to the station to be booked.

I had to think pretty carefully about who I could call to bail me out at 2am. I was pretty sure Nathan wouldn't have the cash on hand and neither would most of my friends. My parents were definitely out, meaning I couldn't call Claudia either.

So my only option left was Victoria, who wasn't exactly thrilled at being dragged out of bed in the middle of the night to go and help out her little sister at the police station.

She waited until we were in the parking lot to really lay into me though. Geez, I could have just called Mum if I wanted the lecture. I felt bad enough as it was.

I've never been so happy as I was that night to fall asleep in my own bed

The next morning, I was feeling much more contrite about the whole thing.

It was a pretty stupid thing to do and I'm probably going to get in a whole heap of trouble for it, based on what the cops said last night.

Audrey doesn't think I should freak out just yet and told me to talk to Nathan and see what he has to say.

I've never broken the law before - I've never even had so much as a parking ticket - so that has to count in my favour, right?

I'm avoiding Julia (no small feat when she lives across the hall) but Audrey saw her before work. She's sporting quite a shiner, apparently.

Anyway, Nathan came over after work and I told him the whole story.

He looked totally unsurprised. I was about to get offended, until he told me that Hope had already relayed the entire story to him. She called him at work especially to tell him. I guess I'm the talk of the town.

He still wasn't exactly happy about it, which I guess is understandable. He probably thought he'd dumped one psycho and hooked up with another one. Nathan spared me the lectures though, thank God. I got enough of that from Victoria the night before.

He can't represent me yet, seeing he's not finished law school but he said he knew someone who could and that he could set up a meeting for the next day.

I really hope this turns out as okay as Nathan thinks it will.

After meeting with the lawyer, Rob, I was feeling very confident about things.

He said the public prosecutors like to talk the big talk about assault charges whenever anyone is caught fighting but it rarely ever goes that far.

If I plead guilty, in all likelihood, they will either drop the assault charge and charge me with just being drunk and disorderly, which is just a fine.

Not that I'm thrilled about a fine - Rob said it would be about $500, which is not really a small amount of money to me - but I'll take it over the alternative!

I'm seriously relieved. I can't even describe it!

Nathan was coming back from lunch just as I was leaving, so I got to update him right away. He was happy, though he couldn't possibly have been as happy as I was.

I'm so glad he could recommend Rob for me. I guess it really pays to have a boyfriend in law school.

Extras:
Julia was really excited when I told her to throw a drink in Rebecca's face!

This just made me laugh. I had their facial overlays set but they both just kept grinning. And I'm sitting here thinking, "What do you think this is, girls, a social call?" Any other time, it's hard to get Rebecca to smile, because she's usually raging about one thing or another.

I've been playing with facial overlays a lot more since I edited my pose boxes. One of the Flirt.../ interactions has always really irritated me, because the Sims' are completely stone-faced during it.
It looks so much better to have them smiling! Any facial expression at all is an improvement on the default though.

Notes:

  • Title is from Take It Or Leave It by The Strokes.
  • First proper update of the round and we're already into the ROS! Rebecca rolled the bar fight ROS this round. The ROS says the fine is supposed to be $200 but I'm changing it to $500, because that's the fine for drunk and disorderly here. And no, I don't know that from experience! That's just another fun Google search term for anyone who uses my computer to come across one day. ;)
  • Anyway, I did like that Rebecca was the one to roll this! This ROS would have been a much bigger challenge to write if it was another Sim. Like can you imagine Finn in a bar fight? LOL. I can't. And it was quite convenient that Rebecca, on top of having a temper, already has a history with Julia.
  • And yeah, Sam and Kimberly are still not getting along. I'm waiting for one of them to roll the "Become Friends With" want, which I often get with in-law type relationships and that'll be my clue that one of them wants to build a bridge and get over it. ;)
  • Both girls got promotions this round, which I was very pleased about. Rebecca is now a Social Worker, which means I can use her for Aaron and Calvin when they do the whole adoption thing this round. Audrey is a Dance Video Star - I just saw Kanye West's "Runaway" video (35 minutes long!), which has ballerinas in it, and I thought of Audrey straight away.

  1. I love how you wrote the ROS for Rebecca, gosh she looks so much like her sisters in the main photo with the new hair. Funny you mentioned that video, one of my classmates is in that as a ballerina-we went to a fine arts school and she majored in dance.I think that's the only video that would make sense in the maxis career line up for dance :P

  2. ROFL at the bar fight. But I will say I got a little kick out of Julia tossing the drink in Rebecca's face. I mean, I know she was totally crazy girl friend, but I still look at Rebecca as stealing Julia's man. LOL

And yay on the promotions, but boo on the fine. How long will it take for her to pay it off?

  3. Apple Valley, glad you enjoyed it! Heh, I think Rebecca looks more like Trent in drag than either of her sisters!

Oh, that's pretty cool that your classmate is in that video! Yeah, I can't think of too many other music videos I've seen featuring ballerinas but I guess there are probably a couple. I'll just imagine Audrey is in those. ;)

    Thanks for reading!

Riverdale, LOL, do you? Rebecca probably had her eye on Nathan while he was still with Julia but she didn't touch him until they'd been broken up for a few months. So it was all above board. ;)

As for the fine, Rebecca can pay it right now but it just doesn't leave her with much left over.

    Thanks for reading!

  4. Loved the way you played this ROS out, the drink in the face was hilarious.....well, maybe not so much for Rebecca lol. She's lucky she just got off with a fine. The Kirby girls do all look quite a bit alike don't they?

  5. LOL! I loved the bar fight. It fit very conveniently into your already existing story (and was fun to read about, lol!). I can imagine after this Nathan may think he only attracts girls that are a little unstable. ;)

  6. Well Julia sure know how to spoil a night out :) I wonder when she will finally let it go and move on.
I'm glad Nathan supported Rebecca even though he might have thought he switched one pshycho for the other, to say it with Rebecca's words.

I did like the whole bar fight though, and it's like you said, Rebecca was a good one to roll this ROS, this sure wouldn't have been something for Finn :)

  7. Mizzgin03, no, I don't think Rebecca thought it was so funny, based on the fact it earned Julia a punch in the face! She's definitely lucky she's getting off with a fine and she's also lucky the cops pulled them both out of there; Julia is not above fighting!

The Kirby family has very distinctive features - the nose, the eyes, the chin. It makes a fairly distinctive look. There's a strong resemblance but I'm just glad they don't look too cloney!

    Thanks for reading!

Shana, I know, don't you love ROSs like that? The ones that enhance an already existing storyline are the best ones, to me. I was really happy to roll this one.

I think Nathan probably realises Rebecca was just a little bit affected by alcohol ;) while Julia fights sober, lol. But he still probably won't let her live it down for a while yet.

    Thanks for reading!

Tanja, I think Julia and Rebecca might have had an equal hand in ruining the night, though Rebecca for sure doesn't see it that way! I'm really hoping Julia finds someone else to focus on - this round would be great. ;)

Nathan is pretty keen on Rebecca, so I think he was more disappointed than anything else. Ignoring Julia would have been a better tactic and Rebecca obviously didn't do that.

Man, I think if I rolled it for Finn, I'd probably reroll! Hmmm, no, maybe I wouldn't, but I would have written it very differently!

    Thanks for reading!

  8. Not funny but that bar fight totally made me laugh, proper cat fight. At least the girls had lovely night out previously and guess a bit of a fight just makes it all much more memorable:)

  9. Speechless, when all is said and done, I think Rebecca will take this as a lesson learned, to watch her alcohol and her temper and everyone else (except perhaps Julia) will probably be laughing along with you. ;) It's definitely a story to tell!

    Thanks for reading!

  10. I can't be the only one who thinks Julia needs some kind of anger management or counseling or something? She's so...intolerable. There's got to be a lot of story behind all that crazy.

It's going to be interesting to see how they avoid each other, living in the same complex and all.

I love how the ROS scenario worked out in your favor for Rebecca.

  11. Ooh this was the perfect person to get that ROS. LOVED how you did the bar fight scene, Julia is just outta control!! I agree with Choco, someone needs to put that Julia into anger management.

Jack and Audrey are really cute together, funny on the kanye video. That is heck-a-long! I can't even watch that. Seeing Rebecca go to Rob in his office was pretty fun, I like seeing sims at work. I'm glad that Rebecca and Audrey are getting along, I'd be hardpressed to allow just anyone move in with me, so I'm glad that it's not working out horrible for Rebecca.

  12. Choco, no, Julia definitely needs some kind of counselling! With someone other than Rebecca, perhaps, lol? It's so weird that she's so bold and angry. Her parents are shy and nice, her sister is shy and nice. If she didn't look so much like her parents, I'd swear they adopted her!

Avoiding Julia when she lives across the hall will be a challenge. Maybe the punch has scared her off and she'll leave Rebecca alone regardless. ;)

    Thanks for reading!

Maisie, I know, right now, I can't think of anyone else who I could have written this ROS for. At the very least, Julia needs to let go. She's not getting Nathan back (he's been with Rebecca for a year now!) and she doesn't even want Jack back, so no use holding onto anger there. She'd be happier if she got over it.

I will take absolutely any excuse to post pictures of Jack and Audrey. I adore them! I watched that Kanye video one night when I was too lazy to get up or change the channel. So I was going to be sitting there anyway! It's very grandiose, like Kanye himself and just a tiny bit ridiculous. ;)

I was happy to finally give Rob something legal-like to do. I think only Kirstin has got to do that before.

No, I wouldn't want a random roommate either. I think Susannah knew Rebecca wouldn't either, so she arranged for Audrey to move in. Rebecca still didn't really know her, but she came recommended which probably made her a little more agreeable to trying to get along. Audrey and Rebecca are very different girls though, I'll tell you that much!

    Thanks for reading!

  13. I loved it! A good sim for a bar fight and the aftermath of getting booked and all. Funny that straight-laced Nathan now has a girlfriend with a criminal record. Even Julia didn't go that far! LOL

This is one of those things all of them will look back at and laugh about, well, everyone but Julia.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Fini, LOL, I know, poor Nathan! He sure can pick 'em! At least drunk and disorderly is a fairly minor misdemeanour, when you look at the grand scheme of things! No one was too injured, so it definitely will be something to laugh at one day. Maybe even for Julia, if she ever decides to let go and relax a little!

    Thanks for reading!

  15. OMG, what an intense post! I loved the fight in bar, and laughed out loud at the Extra picture of Julia. She seems really excited, indeed, like "it's true? I can throw my glass of her face?! I've been dreaming about that for so long!" *lol*

    ReplyDelete
  16. Sandy, this one was quite different to anything else I've written before. I've never really dealt with anything to do with crime or the law before! It was fun though!

I'm surprised Julia hasn't thrown a drink in anyone's face autonomously yet! She hates Jack, she hates Rebecca and she hates numerous townies and dormies, so there are plenty of candidates!

    Thanks for reading!

  17. That's really great that Audrey got cast in a music video. I thought of Kanye's video, too. And sucks that Kimberly and Sam aren't getting along. That has to be so tough for her :(.

But onto the main event. OMG! That's hilarious lmao! I forgot all about that ROS and I remember you said that you were happy with who rolled it. It definitely couldn't have popped up for a better person. I loved the scenes at the bar and then at the jail. LOL at Julia being excited to throw a drink in Rebecca's face. Why am I not surprised? I love her face, though. I'm glad Rebecca won't be in huge trouble and glad Nathan didn't lecture her and helped her out.

And thanks for the Audrey and Jack spam! :)

    ReplyDelete
  18. Danielle, yeah, Audrey's doing well. I'm letting her get promoted faster than I allow it for most Sims, because dancers have such comparatively short careers. But I'm kind of attached to this level now, lol!

Yeah, I'll touch more on the Susannah/Sam/Kimberly situation in Susannah's update and maybe a little bit in Kimberly's. It's stressful for Susannah, for sure.

This ROS just lined up perfectly with Rebecca's personality and her rivalry with Julia. I couldn't have thought it up better myself! Rebecca got off lightly, so she was definitely lucky with the way this turned out. If it happens again, I don't think can expect Nathan to be so understanding, or Victoria. Not to mention the public prosecutor. ;)

    Thanks for reading!

  19. What an awesome update! How hilarious that Rebecca ended up in a bar fight! You always make the ROS work so well!

I also love how excited Julia was to throw the drink, lol!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Rachel, I don't think I could have rolled the bar fight ROS for a more appropriate Sim. It's just the kind of thing Rebecca would be likely to do, if she was provoked and had a few drinks in her!

Crazy old Julia...I don't know what to do with that girl, lol!

    Thanks for reading!
