Lot tour: The Ashton house

I picked away at this house for weeks, due to a lack of inspiration. It usually only takes me a few days, if that, to do a house. With this one, I haven't really done much landscaping and the balconies are still empty but I'm calling it done, at least for now. Some of you may have already seen this tour at N99.

First storey layout.

Second storey layout. I didn't build this house, by the way. Pascal, Mina, Abigail, Jesse and Nick lived here right up until Abigail got pregnant with the twins. It now looks quite different than it did then though.

This is as close to landscaping as I got with this lot. The rest of it is mostly just a big expanse of grass. But I like it and Patience's favourite colour is yellow, so it works.

The main entrance (there's another that leads directly into the living room that I may or may not remove.

The foyer, with photos hastily slapped onto the walls right before I took this picture! They were looking a bit bare.

I love this little nook by the stairs. I remember I had a chess set here with Abigail and Jesse as well.

A better view of the staircase.

The living room is my favourite room. Rob's favourite colour is grey, so there's plenty of that around too.

This wallpaper is really hard to decorate with. It makes white furniture look cream, though it doesn't seem to have the same effect in pictures as it does in game. Anyway, the wall hangings here are Patience's choice, because she likes vintage things. Rob is a modern/contemporary kind of guy.

I decorated this entire room around those placemats, lol!

Hey, it's a bathroom I don't hate!

This is my only disappointment in this bathroom. Those counters I used are "commercial" and you can't put sinks in them. Which is so dumb! What is the point of limiting us in that way, EA, other than just to be irritating?

This was the whole reason Rob and Patience had to move - little Patrick's nursery!

With Baby #2 on the way, they needed to upsize (and you can see here that these pics are a little old - pre-pre-school for Felicity!).

Patrick is quite happy in his new nursery but he's only six weeks old, so I guess he doesn't care much about decor anyway.

A little study nook in the upstairs hallway. I imagine this will be the computer Felicity and Patrick are allowed to use.

I never know what to put in hallways and this one is huge!

This is the study, mostly used by Rob, predominantly for work.

Felicity was still a toddler when I decorated this house but seeing I wasn't going to play her before she turned to child, I decorated her room for a child. Her favourite colour is black. A bit dramatic for a child but her mother is an actress, after all!

And finally, Rob and Patience's bedroom. I took the opportunity to use that mirror I'd never used before to fill up some wall space! That armchair with the sequinned cushion is a favourite of mine too.

Hope you enjoyed the tour!

  1. Love this tour! Your houses are always decorated so beautifully- I'm always to lazy to do mine carefully! Where do you get all your recolours? or do you do them yourself?

    1. I'm so glad you like my houses so much. :) I used to be a pretty lazy decorator myself, so I know where you're coming from there. I find that it's worth the effort though. I enjoy the game more when the Sims are in environments that are pleasing to my eyes.

It's really hard to say where I get my recolours because I download from so many different places. I try to remember to pin new stuff to my Pinterest (linked in the sidebar) but with older stuff, I often have no idea and don't have any way to check either.

      Thanks for looking!

  2. Very nice, I adore that your homes have such history with other families having lived in them before.

    1. I kind of like it when a home has some history as well. It's nice for a new family to move in and make it their own with their personal touches too. :)

      Thanks for looking!

  3. I love the tour! I'm always kind of shy about going to N99, but this is lovely.

Gray and yellow are an interesting mix. They're like the little sister of black and orange.

    1. I'm so glad you like it. There's no need to be shy about N99 but I get it; I'm a bit shy at other forums as well!

The little sister! Yes, I guess that's a good description. Black and orange are two colours I've never used much together, actually. Maybe I can challenge myself to use those two colours without making the room look like a tiger!

      Thanks for looking!

  4. I always love a housetour!!
Their house looks great! It's spacious and cosy at the same time.
I wouldn't think of putting grey and yellow together, at least I don't think I ever did, but they look good together!
Despite black being Felicity's favourite color, her room still looks feminine and worthy of a little girl :)

    1. Glad you like it! I'm eager to actually go and play Rob and Patience in their new home. :) It seems to suit them.

After doing this house, I came to really appreciate grey! I wish more of my Sims had it as their favourite colour, because it's a good neutral to work with.

Now that Felicity is four, she can enjoy her new room herself. Apart from the living room, it's one of my favourite parts in the house.

      Thanks for reading!

  5. The whole house is gorgeous--I love the grey walls in many of the rooms, and the way you work in the yellow for Patience. Felicity's bedroom is beautiful. :)

    1. Glad you like it! Yellow is my favourite colour in real life, so it's fun to decorate for Patience. :) Having plenty of space and money to play with is good too. ;)

      Thanks for looking!

  6. Awww, lovely, and it so suits Patience! (I often have the feeling that guys have to accept their spouses' decoration... *lol*) I love how the house looks bright and modern, and this yellow adds a lot of joy and vitamin! Love it!

    1. I was about to say that Patience wears the pants in this family, because the decor is just so her but maybe she's not so unusual, at least when it comes to decor! Most guys I know are happy to let their wives and girlfriends deal with that - they don't have much interest in it! Glad you like the house - I'm keen to get in and actually play it!

      Thanks for looking!

  7. Gorgeous house! My favorite might be Patience's bedroom, I really like grey and yellow and he mirror just screams Patience! That little nook is adorable for the chess table, I love that Abigail lived here beforehand. I rarely reuse houses, I want to fix that but I just like to build so much. Patricks room and just the way the walls are, is really cute too. Can't wait to see who be looks like. Itd be cute if he was Patiences little minature.

    1. I love Patience and Rob's room too (and yeah, it might as well be her room, seeing I definitely drew more influence from her aesthetic than Rob's!). Funny you should say that about Patrick's room. I removed a bathroom and lopped off part of the lobby to make that room, so it still looks rather haphazard to me!

I reuse houses a lot because unlike you, I build only when absolutely necessary! And I almost never build residential lots. I can usually find something suitable for download somewhere. :)

      Thanks for looking!

  8. But see the way Patricks walls are is realistic for some houses. My friends bedroom had a sort of hallway when you walk in (cause her closet was to the right) and her room was sort of around the corner. So to me it screams awesome, Carla is genius. ;) but I get when you know what it was, that you can still see that. But I like it. I vow to make haphazard bedrooms in inspiration of Patricks room. And I'm being fully serious if albeit a little silly.

    1. Well, that's true. People do make these kinds of modifications to real life houses - houses I've lived in even. It'll probably still seem odd to me until I play it and get used to it though. But I do look forward to your haphazard bedroom building, lol!
