Magic

Round 35: July 2041 (Winter)

Sophie Gottlieb is 28 and Josh Royce-Nihill and Elspeth Romilly are 27.
(Amelia is 52, Wade is 51, Camilla is 28 and Oliver is 25)

Narrated by Sophie Gottlieb

When Lila and Connor moved in together, it left Elspeth and I down one roomie and Josh without a roomie at all. It seemed to make sense for Josh to move in with us, so that’s what we did.

Josh loves living here. He says it’s almost like being at home again, when his dad did all the cooking.

I don’t know how I feel about him considering me his personal chef but it’s nice to know my food is appreciated!

I think having Elspeth around all the time is what he likes most though.

They might have started a little controversially, given he was still with Lila at the time, but they make a good match.

I wasn't sure what it would be like living with a couple but it’s been fine, really. There’s the occasional PDA but that kind of thing doesn't bother me much.

Oliver and I are probably worse anyway, when I have him over. So even if it did bug me, I couldn't complain too much.

Still, we do crave a little more privacy than is possible with roommates sometimes, so when Oliver asked if I wanted to go away somewhere with him, I jumped at the chance.

I wasn't too fussed about where we went, so I let Oliver pick and he picked Takemizu Village. I was secretly thrilled he didn't pick Cape Elizabeth. I've been there before, during college, and it’s more exciting to go somewhere new.

Neither of us are flush with cash, so we had to stay in a pretty cheap place. The cheapest place there was, actually.

But it was actually really nice, especially considering how little we paid for our room.

And it was so quiet there sometimes that it was like there was no one else around at all.

We only stayed three days but we packed a lot into that short time.

We had very relaxing breakfasts in our room in our PJs each morning.

We did a helicopter tour, which was incredibly loud but a lot of fun.

We each got an amazing massage and actually learnt how to give them as well!

Oh, and we also got engaged!

Oliver got down on one knee in a beautiful park we stumbled across (or that he pretended we stumbled across!) and asked me to marry him.

He said he knew he wanted to ask me from pretty much our first date but it wasn't until now that he thought I might be ready too.

I didn't have to think about it at all. I'm definitely ready to marry Oliver! I almost knocked him over in my enthusiasm but he didn't mind. He was just relieved I’d said yes.

I wasn't expecting to come back home engaged but it was a very happy surprise.

I was planning on keeping it a secret from Elspeth and Josh until I’d told my parents but she’s got an eagle-eye and spotted the ring right away.

Not that I told my mother about that. I didn't want Mum to take offense that she wasn't the very first to know, so I just let her think she was.

Mum and Dad are both very excited for us, naturally.

Mum is a little too excited! She’s already asking about venues and flowers and dresses and hairstylists.

I've been engaged for about two days! I've barely even begun to think about any of that yet.

She is also hinting about me wearing her dress, which was Grandma Athena and my great-grandmother also wore. I'm bigger than any of them were when they got married though and I'm not sure it’ll fit.

I’ll try it on but if it doesn't fit or look right, I won’t be dieting to fit into it.

Thank God Dad is completely laid back about the whole thing!

Camilla thinks Dad will probably be my saving grace with Mum and keep her from going too insane.

I feel like Mum wears the pants in their relationship most of the time but I hope Camilla is right, at least in this particular instance.

Whatever happens, Mum can’t possibly be any worse than our cousin Hope’s mother! Hope ended up eloping to escape her insanity.

Neither Camilla or I can see Mum going that far, fortunately. I'm the eldest and it’s a big deal, so she’s just excited.

Oliver and I have only talked about our wedding in the vaguest of ways. We've decided we won’t decide on anything for another couple of months.

I know that’s the sensible thing to do, because we don’t want to jump right in and have nothing but stress right up until the wedding. Waiting a bit seems like a good decision.

On the other hand, I'm so happy and I kind of just want to get everything started, just so our wedding day will arrive sooner!

Notes:
  • Title is from Magic by Ben Kweller.
  • So this ended up feeling kind of short to me. It's about 200 words shorter than my updates have been lately. But I was so determined to finish it and it was already 1:30, so I ended it and said "good enough!"
  • I was initially going to write from Elspeth's perspective, just because we haven't heard from her in a while. But then when I was playing Oliver and his brother, he rolled the want to go to the Far East. On a date in the same play session, Sophie rolled the want to get married. And you all know where my priorities lie! It didn't make sense to write from Elspeth's perspective any more.
  • I was very surprised Sophie rolled a marriage want! I'm not sure if Oliver rolled his on their first date, like I said in the update, but if it wasn't the first, it was the second. When I remade everyone for the hood, Oliver rolled an engagement want as soon as I set up his relationship with Sophie again. But Sophie never did, until now.
  • I want Sophie to wear Amelia's dress, because I love that family tradition. But there's the possibility it doesn't have a fat morph or it has a fat morph but it's one of those terrible ones where it makes the boobs look really weird and floppy. And I won't do that to Sophie. ;) If that happens, I'll save the dress for whoever Noah ends up marrying or maybe for Emma.
  • Pressure is on for Elspeth and Josh now. ;) Neither have rolled a marriage or engagement want though, if you were wondering!

  1. I loved Sophie and Oliver's trip!! Yay - they are engaged! I like how she was like oh yeah and we're engaged lol. What a sweet proposal :)

Can't wait to see the wedding details!

    1. The Far East is probably the most boring vacation destination, which I always forget until I get there! It was probably more enjoyable for you to look at the pictures than for me to play through it! I was happy with the end result of the vacation though. ;) I was so happy Sophie rolled a marriage want!

  2. Lol, oh we got engaged too! She's a hoot! Can't wait to see the wedding and I know it will be great since all your weddings are great. Where are they thinking of living? They both live with roommates right?

    1. Heh, I love Sophie. She's fun. I have Edward and Lucy's wedding before Sophie and Oliver's, so I'm not thinking about too many details yet, other than what I already mentioned about the dress. Or I'm trying not to, anyway!

Yep, Oliver lives with his brother. They own the house they live in though (it's the one you built for them), so I think Sophie may move in with both of them for a bit, until they have enough money for their own place.

  3. I hope the dress has a good fat morph and without Madonna cone boobs. I hate when meshes have that. I'm so excited that they are engaged. They are super cute together, and totally deserved the limelight though I do wonder how Elspeth and Josh are doing. I'm glad you shared that they hadn't rolled the engagement want, I was curious. I think it is very fitting that they didn't roll the want yet, seems to fit them.

The vacation was really sweet, I liked the location for the engagement, and their lazy times. The reaction to the helicopter is my favorite tour.

    1. I hope so too! The boob thing mightn't matter so much, because the dress is quite low-cut but I'd have to look. Being so low-cut might take it out of the running anyway, because it'll look crazy low-cut on Sophie!

I'm going to see if I can work Elspeth into Ione's update, as I'm not positive what I'm doing with them anyway. She can bring Josh over for dinner at her sister's place. ;)

Glad you enjoyed the vacation and engagement. :) Sophie and Oliver seemed to enjoy it, though getting engaged does put a positive spin on most situations anyway. ;) I would love to do over my vacation destinations and give all those sims who don't end up engaged a few more things to do!

  4. Aww cute! It was nice that he took her on a little getaway to ask her, makes it even more memorable that way. I thought it was funny too how she almost knocked him over with her enthusiasm, heehee too cute. ;)

And I was just wondering that about Elspeth & Josh too!

So Sophie has her mother's physique. It's a shame and annoying that some cc doesn't fit large sized sims. We're not all the same so why should our sims be. Anyway, I really like that you have your sims follow the family tradition.

    1. I guess Oliver is a bit of a romantic! I'll have to give him that trait, once he becomes playable when they get married. :) Sophie and Oliver are a favourite couple of mine. I'll have to look back to remember how they met, because I've forgotten!

Josh's grandma will be disappointed but yeah, no similar plans for him and Elspeth!

Sophie and Amelia have the same physique now but Amelia was more slender when she got married, so no problems fitting the dress for her. I'll have to try it with Sophie at some point and hope it looks okay on her as well! I've only got a couple of family traditions in Sullivan, so I would like to carry it on, if not with Sophie, then with one of her siblings. :)

  5. It took me a minute to work out how Hope is cousins with Sophie and Camilla, but then I remembered that Emil Collins is half-siblings with all those Morettis. Do I win a Sullivan trivia prize?

Also, yay engagement! I wonder what Elspeth and Josh will do after she moves out...didn't Josh move in precisely because they couldn't afford the rent with just two people? (I suppose Oliver could move in, but two couples in one house seems a little awkward.)

    1. Ha, yeah, that's quite impressive! I almost explained it somewhere but I figured people could check the profiles if they were especially curious and saved myself the trouble. ;)

I may have said that at some point but no, Josh mostly moved in because I don't really like playing sims on their own and Sophie and Elspeth had plenty of room for him! They could probably handle the rent just fine on their own, especially seeing Josh earned a promotion this round and Elspeth is definitely due for one. Oliver definitely won't be moving in!

    2. That makes sense. Have you ever played a solitary Knowledge Sim? It's like watching paint dry. I marry them off and make them have babies as fast as possible.

    3. I have. A long, long time ago. I don't think I lasted very long. I'm quite happy to sit around reading on my own all day but it doesn't make for very interesting game play, funnily enough. ;)

  6. I remembered how Sophie was related to Hope, but it took me looking at Camilla's profile to remember how she was related. Anyway, I'm so happy! Those two are such a sweet couple and I've been waiting for them to get together. You're right, the pressure is on for my power couple.

    1. I'm surprised anyone can follow the Moretti family tree in even the vaguest of ways. It's so damn big!

When I wrote "the pressure is on", I was thinking, "mostly from Fini", lol! But yeah, I've been hoping Sophie might want to make a commitment but I was expecting to have to wait a bit longer. They've only been together 4 years, which isn't very long in my game!

  7. Yay, an engagement! I'm so happy for them! I really hope Sohie can wear her mother's dress, it's a very nice tradition!
I hardly ever take my sims to Takemizu Village, because I don't like it that much, and it's in a desperate need of renovation, but I don't know what to do with it :)
Anyway I loved their trip to Takemizu Village, they both seem to have enjoyed it, and they even got an engagement out of it :)
Does this mean that Oliver will become a regular playable now?

I've missed Josh and Elspeth in this update, but Sophie and Oliver deserved all the attention this time :)

I was wondering if you remembered where you got Elspeths skirt from? I'm sorry if I've missed it on Pinterest :/

    1. I tested out the dress in game yesterday and it has a perfectly fine fat morph! So Sophie will be carrying on the tradition, which I am thrilled with. I haven't put Sophie in the dress yet - just a random fat sim in CAS - but I'm sure she'll look lovely in it and that Oliver will agree. ;) And yes, once he and Sophie get married, Oliver will be a playable.

When you get a chance, check the May thread at N99, because Pru listed some lots that she added to her Takemizu. Some are seriously lovely ideas, including a couple that I can't believe EA didn't think of!

Elspeth's skirt, which I kind of want for myself in real life, is here. It is up on my Pinterest but I can't blame you for missing it! I have a ton of FA clothing links there!

  8. Yay, I love vacation engagements! How cute! And I'm glad the dress is going to work out too. But it was very refreshing to see a bride-to-be who doesn't give a hoot about dieting to fit into some dress, even though she doesn't have to in the end. I love her! And she looks lovely with her curves.

Oh wow though, I'm surprised to see they're all coming up on 30 already! Wow, time flies! Get on it Josh and Elspeth! (No, just kidding, they have a little time, lol!)

    1. I don't think I've ever done a vacation engagement before, although I've had two couples get married on vacation. It's nice to mix things up a bit.

Sophie is a secondary Romance sim and they usually roll the want to Get Fit almost as soon as they put on weight. Not Sophie. She seems totally content with her body the way it is, which is a nice change! I like her curvy as well (so does Oliver, for the record).

I know! I figured it was time they started moving out of the roomie thing, in their late 20s! We'll see what Josh and Elspeth get up to next round. Kit is getting very impatient for her grandson to get married, especially as he's known Elspeth for about 20 years at this point. ;)

  9. Yay, vacation engagements are the best. :) I'm always a bit disappointed with the lack of formal wear for "fat"/pregnant sims so I'm glad you've found a dress for her. Looking forward to their wedding!

    1. Glad you enjoyed it! The lack of morphs for fat sims is bad but the situation with pregnant sims is even worse! I found a dress for Audrey but I didn't have a ton of choice, lol.

  10. How wonderful for Sophie and Oliver. I can't wait to see their wedding update. Too bad Elspeth and Josh will have to worry about finding another roommate, unless they decide to get themselves a new place with just the two of them.

It seems the time flies by because I remember them being teens. Crazy that they're all at that age now.

    1. It's pretty exciting, isn't it? We'll have Lucy and Edward's wedding coming up before Oliver and Sophie's though (December 2041), so it'll be quite a way away.

I think Josh and Elspeth will be okay without another roomie. Josh got a promotion this round and Elspeth should get one when I play her next. Whether they'll stay here or move on, I don't know. They're getting to an age when they might want something more permanent than an apartment, though I haven't crunched the numbers on that yet. Might be just out of reach for them. ;)
