Lot tour: Oliver and Sophie's future home

Another lot tour for you all! For the past couple of weeks on YouTube, I've seen some TS4ers taking part in the 10 minute build challenge. I didn't see any reason I couldn't try it in TS2, so I thought I'd give it a go.

This house wasn't decorated specifically for Sophie and Oliver. I just started decorating based on that couch in the living room and it ended up looking like a good fit for Sophie and Oliver. I'll probably make a couple of changes (the musical instruments from the bedroom will probably go, for instance) but it works for them pretty well as is.

Anyway, so on with the pics!

I set my timer for 10 minutes and this is what I'd done when it started beeping...

Not a whole lot! I'd done the shell but no furniture or deco at all and I didn't even get time to add interior doors. So I set the timer again to see how long it took me to decorate the rest of the house.

Updated exterior and layout.

In total, this took me the initial 10 minutes, plus a little over an hour to finish. So roughly an hour and a half, all up.

The backyard is not finished but so many of my sims' backyards are even emptier than this one. I hate landscaping so much! This house would be pretty easy to extend, so unlike Noah and Brigit's house, I can see Sophie and Oliver living here permanently, even post-kids. :)

  1. It's great! I've never looked at the time when I've been building, but I am rather impatient and don't do too much detailing. Maybe I'll try what I can come up with in 10 minutes next time I play - just for fun :-)
I like the orange and brown colours in this one. It looks cosy and stylish at the same time, and it is easy to imagine a young family in there, even without extensions. The study could be turned into a nursery, for instance.

    1. First time setting a timer for me too but it's something I might try again, for a fun challenge. I don't think my decorating suffered much by trying to get it done a bit faster, so I don't think I really need to spend as much time on it as I normally do! I spend a lot of time deciding between three near identical carpet colours, lol!

True, converting the office into a nursery is another option too. It'll depend on how much money Oliver and Sophie have when they start a family, I think. I do like to have an office in my houses but I'm also happy sticking the computer desk in the living room too.

  2. will you be packaging the lot for downloading at all. I love it. Orange/brown and black theme. I can't build for toffee, so i like to download other people's houses if possible.

    1. Sorry, Peachy, glad you like it but no, I won't be uploading this house. If I did, it wouldn't have any of the CC, which is really what makes the house, as opposed to any building talent from me. ;) I try to cover my mediocre building with nice decor. ;) You're welcome to copy the layout if you like but it's really nothing special. There'd be lots of similar houses on MTS or pretty much anywhere.

  3. The lot is soo amazing! I could totally see myself driving down the street and seeing a house like that IRL. I know I take a lot longer than 10 minutes to build anything in my game, but once I start playing again, I might have to give it a try for my new neighborhood. ♥

    1. Glad you like the house! I would love to see other simmers taking up this challenge, so I definitely recommend it. It was a lot of fun for me and I'm sure others would enjoy it too. :)

  4. I like this changellenge! This weekend I planned to do it myself, but I was halfway my building-process when I realised I forgot to set a timer!
Anyway, you did a great job in only 10minutes, You got the rooms and the windows, I think it's more than what I would have got done, at least I think!

There's room for expansion when they have kids. I'm looking forward to seeing them in this house!

    1. I would love to see what you do with this challenge, Tanja, so I hope you give it another go (and remember the timer this time ;))! I wasn't even expecting to have the shell done, so I did do better than I thought, if not as well as I'd hoped. :)

  5. It's pretty amazing what you did get done in 10 minutes-- the layout, roof, and front landscaping, wow. And the finished product looks really incredible for one and a half hours. That tiny tile in the bathroom is so pretty and striking, and I really like the guitar on the wall in the bedroom. The paintings beside the tv are striking, but fit really well, and the little fireplace is my favorite of the Sims 2 game ones. It looks great!

    1. I think I did okay but I was pretty surprised at how much others seem to have got done in the same time! I can't fathom having the time to start placing furniture. I think those people must have had a more detailed idea of what they wanted to do than I did.

I love the guitar too and I'm trying to think of a reason Oliver or Sophie might have one! They're really not musical sims at all. Oliver's twin brother Sebastian is though, so maybe I'll explain it away as a gift from him. I love that little fireplace as well - wish we had more tiny ones. The other two are a bit industrial looking and don't fit well into a lot of houses.

  6. This house is fabulous, and totally screams Sophia! I'm super excited for these two to get moved in and started on their life together. I really like that built in shower you did, and the main living space and kitchen are really inviting. I think you got quite a bit accomplished in 10 minutes... I mean, that is a very small amount of time! I still need to do this challenge, I really take a long time to decorate sometimes.

    1. Glad you like it, Maisie! I have a built-in shower like that in most of my houses these days, because no one ever seems to include showers with bathroom sets but I have so many recolours of that curtain! It's a nice compromise.

I take a long time to decorate too sometimes, which is part of the reason I wanted to try out the challenge. Would love to see what you do with it!

    2. I just did some recolors of the backless/value shower because there isn't that many great recolors of it. I hear you with having too many of that single one! I will have to try out your idea, I can't stand not having a shower and do wish more sets came with one. I hope to do the challenge soonish! Maybe this weekend, it's mostly open other than weeding (eew!). Where is that perfect plants hack that you have for real life? :)

    3. Heh, I don't think I have any recolours of the shower, though with the way I normally build showers, it doesn't bother me too much, as the plumbing is mostly hidden. I use the undroppable wall too, which means I see it even less! I might have to hit you up if I'm ever looking for any though!

    4. Ha! I need that Perfect plants hack too! My tomatoes seem to need plant food, too, even though I used nice potting soil and some fertilizer when I planted them. Our soil is so sandy.

I bet your recolors look great!
