You say it's your birthday, May 2047

May 2047 (Autumn)

Tim is spending his 27th birthday where he spends so much of his time - at work at the hospital - but he’s not due in until 6pm, so he’s taking the opportunity to celebrate with Marius during the day.

Marius has limited skills in the kitchen but they can’t afford to go out to lunch, so he gives it a go anyway.

It’s just tomato soup but he’s pleased he doesn’t screw it up too badly.

And Tim was happy with it, which is the most important thing. It’s not often that Tim and Marius get time together. With Tim working nights and Marius working days, they often just miss each other. 

Tim is almost finished with his residency though and is hoping for fewer nights spent working when that happens. More shared days off and more money will be very welcome in the Lane-Stern household!

Newly-minted dad of three Jack is 35 this month! 

He’s been considering it for a while but he has decided the time is right for him to finally be done with the corporate world. 

He’s a senior manager and earns decent money but it just doesn’t fulfill him and probably never did. 

Over the past few months, what comes next has been the main topic of conversation, with Audrey, with his siblings and with his parents.

He considered retraining in something and Audrey was all for Jack going ahead with that, if that was what he wanted to do. 

Ultimately though, he couldn’t imagine studying again at 35, so it was back to the drawing board. 

Tate wasn’t sure if Jack would be interested but seeing him struggling to decide on anything else, Tate asked if Jack would consider taking over the restaurant.

He has always wanted it to go to someone in the family but Josie is busy as a doctor and Charlie isn’t really business-minded. Tate has a lot of faith that Jack could do a good job.

But Jack’s not a chef. His cooking skills are fairly basic and even the things he does well, he wouldn’t say any of his creations are at a professional standard.

For the next couple of years or so though, while he’s still fit enough to do it, Tate would like to continue as chef and just pass on the business side of things to Jack. 

If he starts now, there will be plenty of time for Jack to learn the ropes before Tate retires completely. At that point, they could just hire a new chef. 

Hearing that, taking over the restaurant starts to sound totally doable. And not just doable but maybe something Jack would actually really enjoy. 

It’s a huge responsibility but one that Jack will be able to somewhat ease himself into. 

Jack received lots of gifts for his birthday but an exit strategy out of the job he’s grown to hate was unquestionably the best one!

Notes:                                   

• Tim was promoted to GP this round, so he is finally working M-F, 9-5! I A paediatrics residency is about 2 years, from what I can tell, so I'll consider this year his last year as a resident, even though he's past it in game already. 
• I don't know why it had never occurred to me that Tate would need to do something with his restaurant eventually. Or maybe it did and it's been so long since I played that I'd forgotten. Anyway, I think this will work out well for both of them. Jack matches perfectly for Education or Journalism and I did consider Education...but ultimately, I think he'd enjoy this more.
