May updates, 2047

May 2047 (Autumn)

Josh and Elspeth have been married for a year and a half but they are only just getting around to going on honeymoon.

Elspeth has been working hard on a new game and now that the QA team is doing their thing, it’s the perfect time for her to take some leave.

Hubris Games is a very fast-paced workplace but employee wellbeing is a priority too, so vacation days are not usually difficult to get.

Fortunately for Elspeth and Josh, Josh’s family owns a holiday house in Cape Elizabeth and anyone in the family is free to use it whenever they like.

Elspeth has to say, she quite enjoys being in this family! Elspeth wasn’t too deprived growing up but her family certainly never had holiday house money. They never even left Sullivan.

Elspeth’s first time in Cape Elizabeth was back in her uni days and ended up being a little dramatic, so she’s happy this visit is a lot more relaxed.

Josh and Elspeth were both keen for a hot stone massage, like they had on their first trip, but found the place they went to then was now closed and no one seemed to have replaced them.

A slight disappointment but they found other things to see and do there.

There are a couple of restaurants there but Josh and Elspeth chose to make their own meals at home instead.

The pirate ship is really there for kids but at night, it’s pretty empty, allowing Josh and Elspeth to bring out their inner children!

Most of the time though, they keep to themselves in their “home away from home”.

Coming back to their actual home, with work, chores and Josh drinking right out of the milk carton, is tough!

But after a few days of the routine, they’re back into the swing of it again and looking forward to the next weekend.
**********

Sebastian Gentry is 31 and Adelaide Sitko is 29.

At the beginning of the year, Sebastian and Adelaide started trying for a baby.

Adelaide has used birth control religiously for years, so they had no idea how easy or difficult it would be for her to get pregnant. They’ve tested four months in a row and got four negative tests.

Until this month, when it finally came up positive!

They’re both thrilled but so early on, they’re aware things are a bit precarious, so they’re keeping it quiet.

It would be nice if Adelaide’s morning sickness got this memo. If it continues at this rate, it might be hard to hide her pregnancy for much longer.

She and Sebastian can barely get through a conversation without her having to run to the bathroom once again.

The only thing she can reliably keep down is potato chips, which doesn’t seem like a particularly healthy diet for a developing baby.

Sophie and Oliver bring Piper over for a visit shortly after the positive test and Adelaide miraculously manages to go a couple of hours without throwing up.

Adelaide is dying to tell someone and almost let it slip to Sophie when she and Oliver came to visit with Piper.

Fortunately, she stops herself from blurting it out and focuses on Piper, who has just turned one and is at a super-cute age.

It’s nice to see Sebastian spending time with his niece. It makes Adelaide confident that he’ll be a good dad to their own child.

Financially, they’re stable enough that they’re looking at buying a new house. They love their current place but three storeys plus the rooftop terrace might not be practical with a baby.

Sebastian has been working hard on his music and is now able to command a higher rate of pay when he plays gigs. He’s even got a regular spot at a local venue now.

Adelaide has also recently been promoted, something she’s glad happened before she announced her pregnancy. She’s not sure she would have been first in line if they knew she’d be going on maternity leave in a matter of months.

For now though, Adelaide is too exhausted to do much of anything outside of work. Sebastian is keeping an eye open for any great houses that might come on the market but she has told him she will not be doing any packing in her state!

Baby Sitko (they’ve decided to use Adelaide’s name) is due in February.

Notes:
  • Josh and Elspeth both got a promotion this round as well! They're still not trying for a baby though, which I was a bit disappointed about.
  • Sebastian and Adelaide, on the other hand, got pregnant the first time after I took them off birth control. Lila and Camilla both changed their names when they got married, so Adelaide is the only one who can pass on the Sitko name now, which is why this baby will have her surname. Sebastian has three other siblings, so the Gentry name is in no danger of extinction.
  • Also Sebastian finally has a profile, which I didn't realise he was missing until now!

    2. Oh wait, wrong link for Josh's t-shirt, though those ones are also graphic tees. This is where Josh's one comes from.

  2. I love Elspeth and Josh, they're some of my favorites out of all your Sims! Would you ever have a childless couple in your neighborhood if they never tried for a baby or rolled a wish?

    1. I'm glad you like Elspeth and Josh so much!

To answer your question, no. I'd be pretty comfortable saying I will never have a childless couple in my hood if I can help it, for two main reasons. The first is that I really love seeing the genetic mixes in my hood and would be sad to let the opportunity to see more pass by. The second is that I just don't really enjoy playing childless couples in the long-term. The gameplay starts to feel very samey to me. So even though it's unrealistic that every single person in a town would eventually have a child, it's the way Sullivan will always be, because that keeps it fun for me.
