It’s a beautiful dress and was worn by my grandmother and great-grandmother, as well as Mum. That’s a pretty special tradition to continue.
And I know Grandpa was excited for me to wear it too and with him being gone now, it seems extra-important.
I didn’t have a very specific picture in my head of what I wanted my wedding to look like. I let Oliver pick the suits, I let my bridesmaids pick their dresses and for everything else, I just picked whatever I saw that I liked the most.
You wouldn’t have thought being so casual would make for such a long planning process but I’ve always been a bit of a procrastinator.
Our wedding was years in the making but I’m pretty proud of how it all came together.
Oliver and I really just wanted to get married and the details weren’t that important to us.
Well, Oliver wanted to get married. The idea hadn’t really occurred to me until he asked and then it just felt right.
And now we’re husband and wife! I know we haven’t been married for very long at all but it still feels so weird to say that.
Weird in the very best way possible, of course.
My married friends all said they didn’t get to spend much time with their husbands on their big days, so I tried to make sure that didn’t happen.
We managed to steal away from the rest of the reception a few times during the day.
It was nice to get some time alone together during the party.
No one seemed to mind, or at least, they didn’t say anything if they did.
Even with our little sneaky trips outside, we were still able to mingle a ton and talk to all of our guests.
We spent a lot of time talking with Noah and Brigit, who are getting married in April. Theirs will be the next big family wedding and probably the main topic of conversation for a while, now that our wedding is done with.
Unlike me at the same stage, Brigit is right on top of the wedding planning already. She’s like a machine!
I can’t wait to see how their wedding turns out. From the sounds of it, it’s going to be amazing.
Later on in the afternoon, Sebastian somehow got control of the music and became our wedding DJ. Even Oliver had no idea he knew how to do that but honestly, he was pretty good!
He did get everyone up and dancing, which was awesome. I wanted to make good use of having such a great dance floor at our venue.
I was hoping everyone would enjoy themselves at our reception and I think they did.
We would both love to celebrate with a honeymoon but now that we’ve bought a house and have a mortgage to pay off, it might have to wait.
A week off work to just relax and be together will have to suffice for the time being.
Oliver wants to start a family right away, while I’m not really feeling that quite yet. At the moment, I’d much rather get a puppy!
I figure we can see how we go with a canine baby and then we’ll think about adding a human one to the mix.
Posed pics:
Couple shots, which I'm super happy with, especially seeing the height difference (Oliver is 1.06 and Sophie is 0.955, for those of you who speak sim height) makes some poses look very strange.
The couple with Oliver's parents, Jairus and Vanessa, who both look frighteningly young to have a 27-year-old son! Especially Jairus, who looks about 12!
Eddie, Louisa, Oliver and Sebastian. Good genes! And they all have a recessive red hair gene, so fingers crossed! No chance for Sophie and Oliver (she's Brown/Black) but assuming the others stay with their current partners, then maybe!
Sophie and Oliver with Sophie's parents, Wade and Amelia. This pic just reminded me how much I love Sophie's genetics. She actually looks a ton like her dad but she got Amelia's eyes, so she's got quite a different look to her siblings, who are all Wade clones!
Speaking of those Wade clones...Noah, Sophie, Emma and Michael.
The whole bridal party! Future weddings are definitely going to be limited to three on each side (unless I go crazy again, which I might). Having four on each side was just enough to make posing that bit more annoying. The girls' dresses are hard to use with OMSPs too, because they take up the whole tile - it makes it hard to grab the OMSP to move them around.
All the girls. Happy with the two colours with the dresses. If the right bride comes along, I might try it again. :)
And all the guys. I'd already picked out four bridesmaids for Sophie and then realised I didn't really have four groomsmen for Oliver. As a playable NPC (now upgraded - look for his profile soon), I hadn't focused much on friends for him. So I slotted in his dad and Sophie's brother Noah. I thought maybe it was weird to have your dad as a groomsman but apparently it's a thing and fathers often even serve as best men. So I guess it's not that strange after all!
Notes:
- I'm planning on putting up a few more pics on Tumblr, so keep an eye out. :)
- Oliver rolled a baby want at some point during the reception. Sophie just wants a puppy, lol. So no baby this round but we'll see what happens in Round 37.
- The house they're living in now is the one I built for the 10 minute challenge - I did a tour a few months back. They have a $50,000 mortgage now but they are both relatively high up in their careers, so hopefully it won't be too much of a burden. Especially once I finally get Sophie set up with The Claudette.
Finally! I was wondering when these two would get married :) I bet they're going to make us wait forever for babies too :) I loved the wedding and I loved that they waited for a while before getting married-some couples do that.
ReplyDeleteWell, Sophie will be (at least) 31 by the next time I play her and Oliver, so I won't let them wait too long. ACR tells me they're trying but InTeen's BC is stopping them at the moment. ;)
DeleteI have a friend who was engaged about as long as Sophie and Oliver were, so I know it happens. My friend was not nearly as laid back as Sophie though, lol!

Sophie and Oliver are so beautiful together, with their height difference, and those pictures turned out great!
ReplyDeleteHer dress was so beautiful, and that really is impressive, also from a standpoint of keeping up with that particular piece of CC for that long, Carla! That is just even more special knowing how you kept that through the neighborhood reset and generations.
The pictures actually turned out AMAZING, even if they were extra trouble. I was amazed you got all those bridesmaids and groomsmen to stay put. And my father-in-law was John's best man, too.
The bridesmaids' dresses were all so pretty, and them being different colors came off very nicely. I don't remember seeing that venue before. It was really pretty. I also don't remember seeing Sophie's dad before. He is striking, and she did get a beautiful mix of genetics.
I was so excited when I saw a Sullivan wedding had posted, and it was so much fun to see and read.
I love Sophie and Oliver together too. As well as being pleasing to the eye, they are quite well-matched in personality too.
DeleteI'm just thankful Liana Sims is still online, so I was easily able to go and grab that dress again. Their naming system isn't the best, so it would have been hard for me to grab it from my old folders.
Ah, a real-life example of father as best man! Glad I wasn't just reading stories, lol! ;) Sims don't have much of a choice but to stay put if they're on an OMSP, posed and being forced to face me with one of the EA poses on top of that! Placing them is more difficult than getting them to stay put but even that is more tedious than anything.
The last time you would have seen this venue was probably Edward and Lucy's wedding. They didn't get married at Starry Nights but their reception was here. I built it a long time ago. N99 was doing a reunion challenge and I decided to do a high school reunion and this is where I held it.
So happy you enjoyed the wedding!

I always love your weddings, and this round we get treated this round, because there are quite a few!
ReplyDeleteThese 2 certainly took their time! But it was worth it! Love the tradition of the dress, and I hope it's passed on to the next generation as well!
The pictures as the end look great, as always! I can see 4 bridesmaids and 4 groomsmen isn't something you want to do again soon, but it looked great!
Yes, two more weddings this round. I've scheduled them all quite close together, a decision I'm sort of second-guessing now!
DeleteSophie's not one to be rushed into anything. ;) I'm hoping Sophie has a daughter one day, if not one of her siblings. Although I guess she wouldn't have to have a girl - just a boy who's marrying one! Amelia isn't part of the family line by blood and she wore it.
You know, I might go back on my word and do four bridesmaids/groomsmen again one day! I think the problem was much less the number of sims and more the dresses I chose for the girls. They are beautiful but the OMSP issue I mentioned really did make it hard to pose them!

This was lovely. Sophie being a laid back bride just really made this seem like a fun day for everyone. And how special that she got to wear a dress with so much family history! <3
ReplyDeleteI love so many of these pictures, but especially the cake smushing one, and the one where they're dancing together under the lights. So pretty!
I LOVE how the bridesmaid dresses looked together. That really turned out neat! But man, I want that dress in my game now. That particular dress is the exact length and style that I want for one of my brides, you know, in white and if it wasn't made for TS2. ;)
LOL @ their canine baby! I hope they have human ones, too, though.
Ah, I want to do a wedding so bad now instead of all the damn divorces my sims want. Or hey, maybe more divorces means more second weddings, lol!
I was so happy with the dancing pics, so I'm glad someone noticed them! Took about a million, I think. The sun had just started setting, so that's contributing to the pretty lighting there as well. :)
DeleteSo funny that you say that, because I'm actually considering the white or cream version of this dress for one of my brides! I just think it would be such a cute, slightly retro look.
All my sims have human babies eventually. ;) There's no escape from parenthood in my game! But dog baby first for these two! Sophie is very keen, lol.
Justin and Stephanie surely deserve a wedding one day! ;) I'm excited and kind of overwhelmed at the same time at the thought of two more weddings this round. Already shopping!

This was a wonderful wedding! I really like how nicely it went together considering she wasn't a details-fanatic! The dresses were lovely, and puffy bridesmaid dresses are a pain to move around! Jarius always looks like he's 12 whenever I see him! lol. He's kept his looks, and isn't terribly tall, plus red hair always looks a bit youthful to me anyway.
ReplyDeleteSophie wanting a baby puppy over a human baby, that sounds about right! She has great genes, and her eye shape would really lend itself to that smokey eye look, they're very relaxed and rather come-hither if she wants. :)
Exciting about Noah and Brigit!
Ha, well, Sophie had literally years to pull it together. In a way, her wedding is less of a miracle than Lila's was, because she planned that in a very short time. LOL, yes, Jairus is so youthful! He looks younger than his sons sometimes.
DeleteI'm quite keen to see Sophie's genes mix with Oliver's. I'm hoping the kids favour her, as Oliver is handsome but quite bland, overall. ;) You're right about her eyes. Their shape actually makes it difficult to find eyeshadows that work for her. I'm not sure she's even currently wearing any!

I'm so glad to be able to see a wedding - yours are always spectacular. The venue with the bar and the bridesmaids is a really cool idea, especially being white. I'm amazed you were able to get such wonderful shots with such a height difference. As a couple they look very natural, nothing forced at all. And so beautiful! Wearing a gown that's been in the family for generations, another wonderful thought although Sophie lucked out with that one. Sometimes the style difference is awkward. And I have to say I love the groomsmen's suits as much s the bridesmaid's dresses. They look really good!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the compliment! This is one of the few lots I've actually built (versus just decorated) but I'm quite pleased with it.
DeletePssst - I often change sims' heights for photos, if the pics aren't working out! The picture of them kissing at the ceremony, for instance. But I find a lot of couple poses work quite well with any heights, although they don't always look as the pose creator intended. Height fiddling is more necessary with in-game interactions, I find.
The wedding dress tradition started out as an accident but four brides in, I feel compelled to carry it on! So either Sophie's daughter or daughter-in-law or one of her siblings' daughters or daughters-in-law will have to wear it. As for the style difference, Sophie's great-grandmother would have got married probably 90 sim years ago but in RL terms, it's only been about 7! So the styles haven't changed quite as much as a RL bride might expect!
I'm glad you like the suits! I was second-guessing them until I started the ceremony!
