Lot tour: Steve and Olivia's house

I haven't been doing a lot tour for all of my new houses but seeing I actually built this one, I thought it was definitely warranted!

The next family in the play schedule is the Nihill household, so obviously, they needed a house. I had them living in a lovely downloaded one with all the bedrooms on the basement level. When I moved them in, I thought that wouldn't annoy me but it only took about 30 seconds trying to decorate it for me to realise that it was going to drive me insane! Then I actually went insane and decided to build a house, which I very rarely do.

So here it is.

As is customary when I build houses, the rooms are all way too big. ;) But better too big than too small. Maybe?

What passes for landscaping in my game. ;) It's still more than I normally do.

The enormous living room area. Victoria and Adrienne (and Araminta, who is off camera) had dropped by as part of the welcome wagon. As always, don't mind the blank frames. You guys know I'll have them filled in by the time I play. :)

One of the bathrooms, which are mostly identical.

I'd never used blue and brown together before but seeing Steve's favourite colour is blue, I decided to have this place be more of a mix between his favourite and Olivia's brown (their last place was almost all earth tones). It's subtle, so I think it works.

Note to self: put a plant in that empty corner!

I may turn this room into a covered porch - I just had the idea 10 seconds ago - but right now, it's a sunroom.

Olivia finally has her own sewing room, over 20 years after graduating from college. She's been sewing in the corner of her bedroom for years. Granted, it was a large corner but this is better.

I am very, very fond of all the bedrooms in this place. This is Steve and Olivia's. I was happy to be able to work that bed blanket texture in, as I love the colours in it.

Ramona gets a new hairstyle and a totally sweet bedroom! I would have loved to have had a couch in my room when I was a teenager. It barely fit my bed, desk and wardrobe though, so that wasn't going to happen.

Jacinta's room was the one I was the iffiest on. But then I remembered I gave her the trait Silly, so in line with that, I really like the clashing patterns. This room is growing on me very quickly.

And this is Theo's room. He's got a mix of kid stuff and more grown up stuff in there, cause he's a smart little guy. It won't be too hard to convert this to a teen room, when the time comes.

Thanks for looking! I hope to have a proper story update for you next week. We're only three updates away from the end of the round. :D

  1. Very nice, do you find that with an eat in kitchen and dining room that your sims seperate during meals and some sit at different tables?

    1. Glad you like it. Yeah, I do find sims tend to separate at meals but I fix that up. I just cancel the "eat" interaction, seat the sims where I want them to sit and manually move the plates. I wish I could do it at restaurants too!

  2. Their new house is very lovely, and a mammoth! You filled the space nicely, and I really like all the kid bedrooms, how cute on Jacinta being a silly girl, makes me love her room even more! Theo is adorable, and I really like his room as well. Their kitchen is great, love that they have two fridges!

    1. Glad you like it, especially Jacinta's room. I like it but I wasn't sure anyone else would! It does really seem to fit her though. The two fridges was a new idea I had. I had two tiles and I was going to just centre the one fridge but I placed two down on a whim, just to see what it looked like. They sat flush together like that and I wondered "does anyone actually have two fridges?" Googled and yep, some people do! So now Olivia and Steve have two fridges! Ramona will like it, now that she's old enough to cook. :)

  3. That is a fantastic house, both inside and out! Love the floor-length curtains. And you are right, brown and blue works very well together. Must remember that :-)

    1. Glad you like it! The curtains are a favourite item of mine. I overuse them so much but they're so versatile that I can't help it. :)

  4. Oooh! That's not a house, it's a castle! Those are some really swanky digs. I'm jealous. ;)

I have the same issue when I build--everything seems inordinately BIG. Then I try to scale down and it becomes a mess and I usually just give up.

    1. Thanks! I ran out of money twice while I was building and decorating. Oops! But they were relatively wealthy in the old hood, so that's okay.

So glad I'm not alone with the BIG rooms issue. I did okay with the brownstone but only because it was on such a narrow lot. Even with that house though, the bathrooms are way too big, lol!

    1. So glad you like it, Rachel! It plays nicely too, which is all I could ask for with one of my own builds. :)

  6. This is such a spacious house! I would have trouble filling up all the space, but you've done a really nice job!

I think the exterior of the house looks nice as well!

You've done a great job Carla, the house is lovely!

    1. Glad you like it, Tanja! This one took me a lot longer to finish than Lia and Gordon's house, the one I'm about to play. It's so much easier to decorate a small house!

  7. Looks great! Not too much clutter and not too little either. I always clutter way too much, but lately I've been holding back a bit. I think because I focus too much on what the house should look like in my shots instead of focusing on the actual chapter I'm writing. lol

I always build rooms too big too. ;)

    1. I'm glad I'm not alone in my big room problem! I am pretty short on clutter right now, in general, so it's basically impossible for me to overdo it in that respect. ;)
