Uni kids (B), March 2047

March 2047 (Autumn)

Sylvia Draper and Alice Jacobson are 21 and Ramona NihillRuby Lane and Jon Clark are 20.
(Simon is 22)

Alice and Sylvia have just begun their final year of university.

Sylvia’s finding it a little hard to focus. She’s so close to finishing and she’s just a bit over it.

She’s got multiple ideas for screenplays bouncing around in her head and it’s difficult to find the motivation to work on term papers and not something that could one day be an actual film.

Sylvia is still seeing Simon, which occasionally surprises even her. He’s not the sort of guy she ever pictured herself ending up with but somehow, it just works.

He’s finished uni and is trying to make a go of it with his music. His aim is that by next year, he might be able to go travelling and play some shows somewhere other than Sullivan.

Simon is really excited about it and wants Sylvia to come with him and spend a year on the road.

Sylvia is hesitant. She really just thought that after graduation, she’d get a job, find a place to live and keep working on her writing when she could.

“A place to live” could be tricky and Simon’s selling his plan to her as a good way to not have to worry about that for a while…but Sylvia is still unsure.

She’d always thought that maybe she and Alice would be roomies after they finished university but she doesn’t know if that’s a possibility now.

Alice has fallen head over heels in love with Adrian. Just about any spare time she has, she spends it with him.

He is still on campus a lot, as a post-grad student, so they get to see more of each other than they would otherwise.

Alice didn’t think things would move this quickly but they’re talking about moving in together after graduation.

The idea seems thrilling rather than scary, so she feels that maybe it’s the right move for them.

Jon spent last year figuring out his career path and he finally has an idea of what he wants to do. He’s decided to go into social work. He knows the pay isn’t going to be great but being able to help people will (hopefully) make up for it!

His grades are…acceptable but as long as he graduates, Jon will be happy!

His girlfriend Ramona is much more academically focused. She’s maintaining a 3.8 GPA at the moment and is mostly irritated it’s not higher.

She’s not sure how much she can realistically raise it over this year and the next but she’s trying her best to do it.

Writing for the campus newspaper takes up some time she would otherwise devote to studying. She’s in the middle of a story about the delay in upgraded facilities at Suffolk at the moment.

It’s a story she feels is important but the work is exhausting and sometimes she thinks she should just quit.

Ultimately though, she’s headed for a career in journalism and thinks the practical experience will prove important.

Her spare time is limited, so she’s glad the new dorm has much larger rooms, which means Jon can sleep over in hers and she can sleep over in his.

They mostly choose her room, because it bothers Ramona immensely that Jon hasn’t bothered to decorate his with anything but the absolute essentials. It’s actually a little depressing.

If they ever live together, she’s already decided she’ll be in charge of the decor.

Despite their completely opposite approaches to their studies, Ruby and Ramona are still the closest of friends.

They love hanging out on the roof, just lazing around on the hammocks and talking about whatever comes to mind.

For Ruby, what usually comes to mind is guys.

This is her third year at Suffolk and she still hasn’t really found someone she truly clicks with.

There’s Ian, of course. He’s nice enough, he’s cute enough, he’s fun enough…but there’s no real spark there.

Ian seems to feel differently though and Ruby’s starting to wonder if she’ll have to cut him loose.

He keeps talking about “the future” and Ruby just doesn’t see one, at least not one with Ian in it.

Ruby feels it’s probably kinder to just let him go, rather than let him continue to think their relationship is going to go any further.

  • Apologies for my much too long absence! I like to wait until I have a good amount of time I can devote to playing and I just didn't get that until very close to Christmas this year. I'm off work until early February, so I'm hoping I will get lots more time to play and hopefully get a few more updates up before then. I will definitely get at least one more up in that time, so I'm optimistic about that much!
  • I can't remember if Ian was rolling marriage wants last time (he's a mascot, so he's actually an adult, not a YA, so he gets marriage wants, rather than engagement wants) but he was this time. Even if Ruby was all in with him, which she definitely isn't, the mere fact that he is a mascot would disqualify him from permanent addition to my hood. For those who don't know, if you marry in mascots, they never lose their mascot behaviour or outfits. They'll do the stupid chants randomly and will be wearing the mascot/cheerleader outfits every time you load a lot with them on it. Very annoying! So...I admire your optimism, Ian, but dream on, babes.
  • I'm so rusty and totally forgot to note down anyone's GPA for this session! But I do remember that Alice, Jon and Ramona got A+s in both semesters, Sylvia got an A+ in the second and Ruby is just coasting along with her 3.3!

  1. Some of the programming of our favourite game is really annoying, isn't it! What still irks me is that there are no female Private School Headmasters, and that drivers, hotel staff and some other NPCs are not meant to ever become playables.

Thanks for the update; well written and pictured, as usual!
Enjoy your loooong time off - I don't have a single day off this time, only the actual holidays which are on weekends anyway ;-P

    1. I would be more annoyed by it if I was desperate to marry Ian in! But it's just such a silly thing that EA overlooked and never fixed. And yes, as someone who only ever had female principals as a student and who has mostly worked under female principals as a teacher, the exclusively male headmasters in game is a bit of an annoyance!

Australians love their public holidays, so when they fall on a weekend, we usually get an extra day off on the Monday after. So this year, we had Boxing Day on the Monday (always a holiday) and then the Christmas Day holiday on the Tuesday. Aussies would riot otherwise! Hope you had a relaxing Christmas over the weekend, at least!

      Thanks for reading and commenting!

    1. Glad you enjoyed it! Ian is cute but Ruby doesn't seem to care much. Ha! I'll have to find someone else she likes more.
