Hey everyone! I am currently awaiting an email telling me I can pick up my new hard drive. My secondary drive (where all my Sims content is stored) is dying and is making everything on my computer incredibly slow. With the help of my BIL, we tried a new SATA cable, a different SATA port and a spare hard drive and the one thing we figured out is that everything works fine as long as this damn D drive is not connected!
The D drive is actually fairly old. It was the secondary drive before I did my big upgrade last January, so it's really old - 7 or 8 years old, probably. That drive was a 3TB HDD and I'm replacing it with a 4TB SSD, which is pretty exciting! I was going to replace it with another HDD but I found a great deal on the SSD, including a cashback, so I went for it.
I ordered it on Friday night, with the distant hope it might be ready for pick up sometime on the weekend! Unfortunately, it was not and it's now Tuesday morning and the order is still "processing", even though it's in stock. I can't pick it up until the weekend anyway, so I'm going to wait until tomorrow and chase it up if I still haven't heard anything. Hopefully, I will be able to get set up this weekend!
No need to worry about any of the sim stuff on the D drive, by the way! It's all backed up on my external HD. I was even able to do a quick backup on Scrivener and get that on there too (unbearably slow but it got done). The actual game is installed on the C drive, so once I get my new drive, I should be able to just drop in my folder and go!
Sounds good! SSDs have gone done in price so much since they first came up, I remember how super-expensive they used to be. Hope it will be ready for you and your new gaming experience starts this weekend!
ReplyDeleteYes, they have! My BIL was thinking it'd be almost twice the cost of what I'm paying and told me to jump on it when we found this deal! Everything's going to be zooming along and I'm excited. Still haven't heard anything but I emailed the store this morning to see what's going on. :)
