Hi everyone,
I really didn't intend to be away for as long as I have been, so I wanted to drop a quick note to explain. I'd planned to start simming again this week and get an update out by this weekend but that's really unlikely.
Very early Sunday morning, my dad was taken to hospital after experiencing shortness of breath. He's been in there ever since, being treated for what was ultimately discovered to be a weak heart muscle. It's irreversible but manageable with medication. He is also going to have to make some serious lifestyle changes when he gets out and he has a history of not following doctors' orders. He has said that he'll do as he's told this time but we're all on tenterhooks while we wait to see if he's had a big enough scare to actually follow through.
It's been a very stressful time for the whole family. You may see me around the community but I haven't been able to actually play. I'm not going to take a stab at when I might be back, because I don't want to pick a date and then not stick to it. It might be soon, it might take a bit longer. I hope you can all be patient with me in the meantime! :)

Hugs sent your way. So sorry that is what is keeping you away. I haven't ever commented before but have read your blog for years. Looking forward to when you have time but of course please take your time.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear your Dad - and all of you! - had such a scare. I hope he'll stick to doctor's orders once he's out of hospital. My Dad suffered a minor stroke about 10 years ago. It scared him enough to almost quit smoking... almost :-( Still, he lives much more health-conscoiusly now than he was doing all his adult life.
ReplyDeleteWe'll still be around when you are ready to take up simming again :-)
sorry to hear about you dad's illness. Take your time with your RL family and came back when your ready.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about your dad. Family is very important, and he definitely will need everyone's support. Take your time and come back when you're ready!
ReplyDeleteHuggles, so sorry to hear that. Like the others have already said, take your time.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the well wishes, everybody. I really appreciate them. :) Dad is home now. So far so good with the diet and the smoking but it's early days. We're hoping he can keep doing as well as he is right now and really try to improve his health.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about your dad and I hope his health does improve!
ReplyDeleteI have fallen behind on everyone's blogs, and I can't even remember my blog login, but this popped up on my Google feed.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your dad's health problems, Carla! Hopefully this is the push he needs to start making healthier choices and keep it going. Hugs!
So sorry to hear about your dad. I wish I'd seen this sooner. I'm glad he's taking those steps the doctor said and hope he can keep managing. I love Sullivan, so whenever you post again, I'll read, but certainly your dad and whatever needs and priorities are most important, are most important, right?
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear that your dad is home, and I hope he takes the orders very seriously and sticks with the lifestyle improvements. *hugs* <3
ReplyDeleteBeen thinking of you Carla, I'm glad that your Dad is home and is so far following the new guidelines for better health. The smoking seems like such a big one, and I hope that he is able to conquer it. ((hugs)) It's so hard when our family is sick. I'll be here to read whenever you are ready to play again.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your father. That's sounds pretty serious, I hope he gets well real soon. RL comes first so take all the time you need and don't worry about us. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks again everyone! Nice to see you around again, Danielle. :)
ReplyDeleteI thought the smoking would be the biggest one for him but I think because he went five days without it in hospital and also because he had reduced his smoking so much to begin with (going from a pack of day in my childhood to about five cigarettes a day pre-hospital), that's been a bit easier. The diet is a little more difficult - he's on a low sodium diet. Did you guys know basically everything has sodium in it? Some of it quite a lot of sodium? It's kind of crazy. I've been helping Mum figure out how to feed him now and it's eye-opening.
He will be under the care of a really good cardiologist - the same one he saw in hospital. Dad's GP told him what a great doctor he was too, so it was nice to get that confirmation from someone who probably shares at least a few patients with him. :)
Sorry to hear about your dad's health problems but nice to know things are looking up. Hugs for you and your family!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sari. :) We had some potentially good news the other day, which was a nice. A heart failure nurse came to see Dad at home and told him that what he was told about his condition being irreversible is not necessarily true. It doesn't mean that his condition will be reversed but if he responds well to the medication and follows doctors' orders, it's possible. The doctor who told him otherwise was a registrar* and has apparently been "spoken to" more than once.
ReplyDelete*I'm not sure they're called registrars in other countries but a registrar is a doctor who has finished medical school and is now undertaking additional study to become a specialist. The ones I've come across have been great but this guy was something else!
hi, i just wanted to ask, cause i really can't seem to find for some reason, i've been trying to check all your file for a clue but, is this for sims2?
ReplyDeleteYes, this is all Sims 2, apart from two or three TS3 posts, published around the time that game came out.
DeleteThanks for your response! Despite all you've been going through with your family, you still answered back.. hope everything's well. I'll include you in my prayers :)
DeleteThank you, that's very much appreciated. :)
