Locked out

Round 30: February 2031 (Summer)
Lake Draper is 74, Kendal is 55 and Chris is 16.
(Elspeth is 17)

Narrated by Chris Draper

Either I'm a little dim, or Elspeth is totally inscrutable.

Things seemed to be fine with us as far as I was concerned but I guess Elspeth didn't feel the same.

Apparently, things weren't working out. It was news to me.

It really felt like it came out of nowhere but Elspeth said she just didn't feel the same way about me any more.

Just a few days before, we'd gone out on a date and she was acting totally normal.

Then she dumps me.

Maybe eventually, we can be friends again. We never really fought - it was all pretty smooth sailing right till the end. Not right now though. Right now, all I can think about is how much getting dumped sucks.

Edward and Lucy keep telling me I'll find somebody else, somebody better.

I know they're right. Elspeth isn't the only girl out there.

I don't know if they really get it though. They're happy, so how could they?

Mum is intent on smothering me with sympathy.

I'm fine. Really. I'm feeling pretty crappy but I'll live. But Mum still feels the need to compulsively check that I'm okay, 24 hours a day.

That's one of the problems being raised pretty much as an only child. Most of Mum's mothering has been squarely focused on me for as long as I can remember.

It's always nice when my brothers and sisters come over and take some of the attention off me for a while.

When that happens, I usually end up entertaining Sylvia.

I don't really mind too much. All anyone talks about these days is babies anyway.

Rose and Joanna are trying to have a baby by artificial insemination and that's all anyone is interested in.

And Troy and Josie are thinking of having a kid too, much to Mum's excitement. Patience has only been married a month, so I guess she'll get a few more weeks of peace before my parents start asking her about babies.

I don't think Dad really cared much about having grandkids before he actually had one. He's almost as bad as Mum now.

I'm pretty keen to get out on my own. I found out recently that I got into college. I've worked really hard during high school, so I was sure I'd get in.

Mum is already talking about how much she'll miss me. Geez...there's two years before I even leave!

It feels like a really long time but I've already decided exactly what I want to do. I want to get my bachelor's and then get a Master's in architecture.

Mum and Dad are happy I'm so clear with what I want to do (and that it's something sensible!) but they don't want me to get too attached to the idea. I don't think I'll change my mind but I guess there's no telling what will happen between now and the time I graduate college.

Outtakes:
Every time Edward made a move on Lucy (or vice versa), Chris would nod his head and smile. The icon in his queue was labelled "Approve". I guess it's nice that he doesn't begrudge his friend a happy relationship but it's also a tiny bit creepy!

Notes:
  • Title is from Locked Out by Crowded House.
  • Elspeth has always been a little iffy about Chris. It was pretty clear that he was more into her than she was into him. I took them on a date this session and she barely rolled any wants for him at all. And when Sims aren't rolling wants even on a date, something is wrong! So what is that now? Four boys who've had their hearts broken by Elspeth? Connor, Josh, Noah and now Chris!
  • Chris is moping around quite a bit. I didn't even need to use a facial overlay on him in the picture on the bed. He was just grumpy all on his own. Poor boy. There's a better match out there for him (yes, someone specific!) but as always, I'm going to wait to see if they start anything up on their own/roll wants for each other.
  • Chris will move to Suffolk in January 2033. He earned 4 scholarships. He would have earned 5, but he ended up getting fired from his job on the last day, due to a chance card fail. Oops?
  • Also, Kendal was promoted to Education Minister this round. Not really as exciting when the Sim is already so obscenely rich but she can focus on her LTW to Max All Skills now.

  1. I admit I scrolled all the way to the end to see if Lake survived this round! Whew!! Second, isn't that "approve" thing strange? I just noticed it for the first time last night, Emma kept doing that when Grace and Benjamin were amourous.

Now for the update! I'm not surprised on Elspeth. I just didn't see this being a long term good fit. Even though this family has money, they don't seem snobby. I think Chris would be happier with someone more down to earth. Likewise I think Elspeth needs a stronger personality to keep her meanness on a lower key. Otherwise I think she gets bored. She needs someone who is strong willed enough to keep it interesting.

It was nice checking in with Rose. I hope they get their baby soon. And yay for Josie. Have they started trying yet or you waiting a little? I have a few who want to try and I'm avoiding them til this boom is a grade ahead of them. Keep classes manageable.

  2. Maisie, LOL, yes, Lake's safe for another round!

The "approve" thing is weird. I wonder if there are personality traits that trigger it, or if it's random like "Be Grossed Out" and "Disapprove" seem to be.

Chris and Elspeth were never a match made in heaven, no! In game, their personality points are not too different from each other but they never really clicked. Chris is as "mean" as she is, but he's never really acted like it. Chalk it all up to experience, eh?

Troy and Josie haven't started trying yet - they're in negotiations. I might make them wait a little, seeing they can use BC. I'm thinking of making everyone wait a little this round. I have a couple of slobs who I'm thinking might possibly get knocked up this round, so I don't want to overload myself with babies!

    Thanks for commenting!

  3. It wasn't a big surprise that Elspeth dumped Chris, it never seemed like it would last forever. I agree with Maisie that Elspeth needs someone with a strong personality.

Poor Chris, he's the baby of the family! It sounds like he can't wait to go to college and start a life on his own.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Rose and Joanna to get their baby soon. :)

  4. Another one bites the dust, yikes. I fear that the same thing might happen to Elspeth, but at least she's not evil about the whole dumping thing, which she could be considering her lack of nice points.

  5. Ha, I should have known that Elspeth and Chris wouldn't last. Poor Chris. Another victim. But I gotta love that Elspeth isn't afraid to go after what she wants and leave it behind once she's done. That is kind of creepy how he "approves" Edward and Lucy whenever they're romantic. But at least he's happy for his friends.

It was nice to check in with all of the kids. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Rose and Joanna, too. This family is going to multiply quickly once everyone starts having babies. There are so many kids!

  6. Poor Chris! But Edward and Lucy are right, there are so many other girls, although I can understand it's hard to think about it like that when you are just dumped!
I'm glad he got some good news about university too.

    I like those familygatherings!
And yay for the news that Josie and Troy are thinking about having a child too!!
    Baby-boom continues!!

  7. Sari, no, I don't think anyone would be particularly surprised by this turn of events! I guess Elspeth will probably just date around, leaving broken hearts in her wake, before she finds someone she really clicks with.

Chris is the baby of the family and Kendal doesn't let him forget it. She'll miss him when he's gone. She rolled a baby want this round (um, how about NO?!) so I think she's having trouble letting go.

Apple Valley, true! But Elspeth has never really fought with Chris (ever!), so I didn't see her being mean about this particular break-up. If he'd pissed her off in some way, it would probably have gone down very differently!

    Thanks for reading!

Danielle, apart from Connor, which happened when she was very young, Elspeth hasn't really gone after any of these boys who've become so taken with her. Maybe that's they key for her? If it's someone she chooses herself and then pursues, she'll take more of an interest.

I know, Lake and Kendal are going to have as many grandkids as Filippo and Maria! It's going to be crazy huge.

    Thanks for reading!

Tanja, there are other girls, absolutely! Chris is lucky too because he's not related to any of them, unlike poor Noah and Anthony - they're related to most of the girls at the school. Chris kind of has his pick. ;)

LOL, trying to slow down the baby boom a bit! When I get to Troy and Josie, I'll see how many babies are looking like they'll be due in 2032 and reconsider. I might have them wait until next round or I might not.

    Thanks for commenting!

  8. Have to comment again about Kendal rolling a baby want. This is going on in my hood too, it seems that all my female sims are rolling baby wants (except those who I'd actually want to roll it)!

Also, I forgot to ask if you remember where you got Lucy's hair, it's really cute.

  9. Awww, feel sorry for Chris, but, the heart knows. Hopefully he will find someone more worthy. He seems like a sweet guy.

'All anyone talks about these days is babies anyway.'
    LOL! So true!

  10. Love that shot of Chris on the bed! It's perfect.

Elspeth strikes again! I wonder if she'll settle down at college, or if she'll be even worse?

I can't wait to see who you have in mind for Chris! I wonder why he's so approving of Edward and Lucy, LOL...it is definitely a little strange. :)

  11. Sari, I know, what's with that?!? Zelda rolled a baby want too! You just became a grandmother, lady - you're not getting another baby!

I'm pretty sure Lucy's hair came from GOS. I downloaded those recolours for it just recently. I'll double-check and come back with a link. :) Hopefully!

Drew, I'm sure he will, eventually. First heartbreak always sucks though!

It's true in my hood these days, anyway!

    Thanks for reading!

Rachel, I really got lucky with that picture. The facial expression is perfect and he did it himself. And he's only on the bed because he was bleeding into the couch anyway I positioned him. But in the end, I like it better this way anyway!

Elspeth at college! Goodness, I don't know. We'll find out when I send her off next year.

LOL, you might be waiting a while for Chris and this girl. They have 3 bolts but so far, no interest.

    Thanks for reading!

  12. Sari, nope, I was wrong! Not GOS. The recolours are by stakeit_uk. I'm assuming the mesh is included, seeing there's no link to it.

  13. I think we called Elspeth's heart breaker status when she first aged up, lol. Poor Chris though. I think it's cute that he looks forward to his siblings visiting just to get the heat off him. Kendal is such a momma, lol.

  14. oh my god the baby want...some of them never get enough babies LOL!

Poor Chris is right, but better now than later. Wonder if Elspeth just enjoys the attention, gets bored easily, or is looking for something she hasn't found yet.

  15. Thanks for the link, Carla. I'm surprised that I don't have that recolor already because I have just about everything else from that blog. :)

  16. Lunar, ah, I think we did. Or maybe when I changed her hair when she turned 15 and she looked more grown up. Oh, I feel sorry for the male population of Sullivan!

Kendal is definitely a mama! She's got a big mama's boy in Calvin but I'm sure she'd like it if Troy and Chris were the same way. ;)

S.B, I know, isn't it nuts? I look at some of them and think "you're in your 50s and have had four already! That's not enough?"

I think there's an element of enjoying the attention with Elspeth. That was at least part of the reason she was so sore when Lila started dating Josh - he was no longer following her around like a little puppy dog. But I also think there's a little more to Elspeth than that.

    Thanks for reading!

Sari, you're welcome! I have a ton of stuff from there too. :)
