Where are you?

Round 34: March 2040 (Autumn)
last update/Mitchell's next update/next update

Mitchell Carmody is 21 and Tim Lane and Eddie Gentry are 20.
(Eliot is 54, Cordy is 47 and Lauren is 19)

Narrated by Tim Lane

At the end of last year, Mitchell’s girlfriend Dixie decided to transfer to another university for her senior year, so they’ve been doing the long distance thing this semester.

All contact so far as been through phone calls, texts and e-mails.

We’re only a few weeks into the semester though and the texts have already gone from multiple messages a day to sometimes not even one.

More often than not, he’ll try to call her and her phone goes straight to voicemail. He leaves messages but she rarely returns them.

He’s trying to stay upbeat about it but it’s weighing on his mind. I think he’s starting to feel like she’s ending it without saying as much. Mitchell thinks maybe she’s met someone else, or she wants to.

He knew it was possible that they could end up breaking up if they tried the long distance thing but he’s at the point where he just wants to know for sure.

Mitchell is a senior this year, so he’s keeping himself pretty busy. He has classes to keep up with, as well as his apprenticeship at Front Page in Sullivan.

It’s got to be hard for him to concentrate on his coursework with everything going on with Dixie. He’s so close to the end though that I think he’s just powering through.

I have to admit though, his cooking is definitely a bit off lately. He normally cooks everything for all three of us and it’s great but not this semester.

Eddie and I have been trying to take him out and take his mind off things, when he has the time.

That time can be limited but if we didn’t drag him out, he would spend all of his downtime studying, or waiting on Dixie to get in touch.

Eddie has finally picked a major and he ended up choosing Political Science. He’s not sure where he’s going with it yet but he has plenty of options open to him. He’s now busy trying to catch up with the other Poli Sci students who all chose their majors two years ago.

Eddie is really enjoying it though. I’m happy for him but I wish he’d stop piping up with random tidbits from his textbooks, just as I’m dozing off on the couch.

Lauren has a lot more patience for that than I do. She’s probably just happy he actually picked something! She’d been pestering him about nailing something down for a while now.

She decided on her major while she was still in high school, so the idea of drifting along taking general classes with no direction was foreign to her.

People often don’t realise how serious Lauren is about her school work, because she doesn’t really appear to be serious about much else!

Mitchell has known her for her entire life and even he forgets sometimes.

She does a pretty good job of taking care of herself, so Mitchell doesn’t get to play big brother too often. Not that he doesn’t try.

I’m still with Marius and it’s going really well for us.

We had our first big fight a couple of weeks back, when I totally spaced on a dinner date we’d planned and inadvertently stood him up. I got caught up studying with my phone turned off and by the time I realised what had happened, it was way too late!

Marius was not impressed at all. He was pissed all next day and I didn’t know if he’d ever actually return my call.

He did, finally, though and came over reluctantly to let me apologise to him.

I think I’m forgiven now. I don’t think Marius is totally convinced that I could just completely forget to show up somewhere but he’s letting it go, at least.

He let me make it up to him with a do-over of the date that never was the next night.

We had a great time. It felt good to get back on track together.

In general, Marius is quite understanding when I get wrapped in my studies. I still have almost two years before medical school but it’s on my mind constantly. Marius us aiming for a Master’s in Architecture after we graduate. A completely different field to medicine but he understands that sort of drive.

Marius has been getting to know all of my friends for the past year. That’s all gone well, but he still hadn’t met any of my family. Seeing our plans to head back home for a visit kept falling through, I invited Mum and Dad here instead.

I think being able to just meet my parents, without my brothers and sister hanging around too, turned out for the best anyway. It let Mum and Dad really get to know Marius and talk to him without interruptions. At home, Charlotte is almost always starting a fight with either Simon or Matthew and Mum or Dad will have to go and adjudicate.

It went even better than I could have expected. Dad and Marius really got along. They’re both very interested in politics and they seem to agree on most of the major issues they talked about. People say you’re not supposed to talk about religion or politics with people you’ve just met but Dad always does anyway!

Mum just loves it that my boyfriend is a brain. She’s happy I’m happy, of course, but that’s a big bonus for her.

Our next step will be a proper meeting with the whole family there. Now that I know my parents approve though, I’m not nearly so nervous about introducing Marius to everyone else. I’m totally confident that it will all go just fine.

Notes:
  • Title is from Where Are You? By Caviar.
  • Dixie was the other sim I forgot to extract from Sullivan 1.0. :( By the time I thought of putting my back-up in and extracting her from that, I was already figuring out what to do with her absence. So I just took it as a sign and went with it. Mitchell is a Family sim and they are worse than Romance sims when they're not in love with somebody. So Mitchell was pretty depressed this round - I don't think he ever got above low green. :( Sorry Mitchell. I’ll make it up to you one day! It was unlikely that he would have ended up with Dixie anyway, as he is a non-Moretti guy, which makes him a hot commodity for the girls of this generation! And I prefer matching playables with playables, where I can. I have so damn many of them!
  • I have ideas for who Mitchell might end up with next but it’s going to depend on who he takes a fancy to, mostly. I have my preference ;) but I don’t know if he (or she!) will agree.
  • You’ll have to forgive me if I’d already picked a major for Eddie. As far as I could remember, I hadn’t and I certainly didn’t have it in my notes and didn’t see any mention of it in the previous updates either. But I’m not ignoring the possibility that I missed it, so I apologise in advance if I did. For as long as it’s been since I’ve played, I’m doing okay at remembering all the bits and pieces about my sims but there are bound to be things I forget.
  • Tim and Marius’s fight was game play. Tim called Marius to ask him on a date, the taxi came and gave him like 10 seconds to get there, which he failed to do. So then Marius was FURIOUS and I got this pop-up from Marius telling Tim that he shouldn't bother calling him again. Oops. But it was the game’s fault, just like the time it happened with Hope and Malcolm all those years ago. Tim and Marius aren’t both huge assholes like Hope and Malcolm are though ;), so it didn’t cause a break-up. Marius just had some serious kissing up to do (literal and figurative, I guess).

  1. I totally believe the standing-up scenario because that's something my husband would do. He's in his own little world and sometimes he doesn't time travel properly into this one. :) (For some people that'd be a deal breaker, maybe, but for me there are enough other things that make the relationship totally worth it.)

Poor Mitchell, though! I hope he finds somebody new soon.

    1. Yeah, I think Marius, fortunately, can see the value in being with Tim despite the spacing out! It was kind of funny the way it happened for Tim. He really was writing a term paper on the computer when he missed the taxi and it really did seem like something he'd do. So as annoyed as I was at the time, it did fit.

I know, Mitchell is a victim of my absent-mindedness. :( He will find someone else, though I'm not sure when it will happen. I'm hoping I can help him out next round.

    2. I absolutely loved how Adelaide photo-bombed the club picture. Forgive me if I have the wrong name. It's after 1 AM in the States and am too lazy/tired to search on the blog.

    3. No, that's the right name! I had to leave that in - it was too hilarious to leave out. And the scene wasn't too serious. ;) Adelaide and Susannah were both dancing up a storm in that club!

  2. I have so much catching up to do on your blog! I decided to just jump right in and work my way backwards lol. At least Mitchell's breakup happened during a time when he has lots of things to occupy his mind. Nothing worse than having nothing to do but sit around moping! And yay for Tim, Marius seems to be quite the catch :)

    1. Hey, whatever works for you! There's probably less catching up to do than there might be otherwise, because I've taken such a massive (and involuntary) break. And I'm going a little slower than normal, because I'm having to do a lot of catch-up work before I play each session.

True, Mitchell doesn't have the luxury of too much moping time at the moment, which is somewhat of a blessing.

Marius is a good guy, though he is somewhat of a sourpuss at times, like with the date. But Tim can be as well, so seeing their behaviour reflected back at them might make them rein it in, lol! They are a good match in general.

  3. Gee think Marius could cut him some slack? Sure it sucks, but I'd think at this point in their relationship they know each other decently well, to give the benefit of the doubt. Glad they got it all squared away, I hate when the car pool drives off before they can get to it, I just had that happen to Ethan and she was fuming, I ignored it though and forced her to forget about it.

Poor Mitchell, Dixie was adorable, but seeing that you weren't going to allow that match up anyway, it's better this way (less sim clutter). I am curious who you have planned for him, or at least an idea for him. I know how it goes when they don't react the way you had hoped, though it always seems to be for the better. That is unless Josh and Elspeth hadn't hooked up, then I would have had to disagree with my own statement. ;) Sad seeing Mitchell looking so down and out right now, the cell phone on the table was especially pathetic. Hope he at least finds someone suitable to date with if he can't find his "one" yet.

    1. Heh, Marius is low-ish in nice points (as is Tim), so he would be more likely to sulk for a little while before deciding to cut some slack. They're all sorted out now though, thankfully.

The carpools and taxis in this game are glitched, I swear. It felt like the pop-up warning Tim that he was going to be late came about a second before the taxi took off and Tim got Marius's angry message! That's my theory, anyway.

I'm pretty keen to get Mitchell sorted out, relationship-wise, but I may let him date someone else first and see what happens. I'm definitely getting very attached to my idea though! The poor boy is lonely right now!

I think things do generally work out for the better, even when they don't go as planned (though I think there would have been some people baying for my blood if I never got Josh and Elspeth together!). Victoria and Finn were never meant to stay together for very long, but I think most of us couldn't imagine them apart now. Kendal was never meant to remarry either but ACR took care of that! So we'll see what happens.

    2. Oh man, Finn and Victoria not together? That boggles my mind, so many awesome kids from them, and they are just too sweet together. Who did you have in mind for them?

      Delete
    3. I can't imagine it now either. I originally put them together because their chemistry was fairly low, despite their matching aspirations (it's a high 2 bolts now, because I matched their turn-ons). Finn was supposed to end up with Patience and Victoria with Jacob. Unimaginable now, right?

      Delete
    4. That would be crazy! I totally cannot see Patience and Finn together! But I can say that Jacob wouldn't be a bad pairing for Victoria though, so I could have seen that. I love how it all worked out though, and who ended up with who. It's great how they sort of pick themselves, and all the little events that happened that we don't plan, that really made it all fall together.

      Delete
    5. No, I can't see Patience and Finn together at all! Victoria and Jacob are a little bit easier to picture, though I (obviously) still like them both better with the spouses they ended up with. Sims usually know what they're doing, I've learnt. ;)

  4. Ooo, now I'm interested to see who you're going to try and set Mitchell up with. He's a cutie and I can't wait to start playing sim DNA in my head, lol.

    1. Ha, that's one of the best parts about a new couple in my head - imagining the kids! It's exciting. :)

  5. I look forward to see you play match maker in the future then. :) And I can sympathize with Marius, LOL. I tend to get cranky if I have to wait more than 1 minute for someone. :)

    1. I'm looking forward to that myself - new couples are so much fun!

I'm definitely like you and Marius with lateness. I'm chronically early, so if someone's late, I've generally already been waiting a while!

  6. Poor Mitchell, lol! Those are the pains of 'moving'. Maybe he'll find a more suitable lady further down the line. ;)

I'm glad Marius can deal with Tim's... eccentricities. He's certainly the type to forget things easily and get tunnel vision when it comes to studying. Actually, he's reminding me quite a bit of my husband. He has a terrible time when he gets 'in the zone' with pulling himself out and remembering to LIVE!

    1. Yeah, I'm a bit sad I forgot Dixie, because she and Mitchell were actually quite a good match. But I'm more excited about what's to come for Mitchell now. There's definitely a more suitable lady in town. I'm just not sure when it will happen.

I know some people like your husband too and it can be frustrating at times! If Marius wants to stick around with Tim, he's probably going to have to get used to him "tuning out" every now and then though!

      Thanks for reading and commenting!

    2. It's sad for Mitchell that you forgot Dixie, but you wrote it in really nicely! I'm sure Mitchell will find someone else soon, and I'm pretty curious (of course) to who you have in mind for him, I do hope they both agree with you :)

Marius and Tim seem like a pretty strong couple. I do understand why Marius got upset, but I'm glad Tim got that make-up-date :)
It's nice that Tim's parents like Marius as well, I don't think it would be easy to date someone when your parents don't like the guy.

It's nice to see Eddie finally declaring his major, even if it's 2 year later than every one else. He has a lot of catching up to do, but he really seems interested although I think his roommates could do with a little bit less :)

    3. Poor Mitchell. LOL, I dropped the ball on this one but I am actually happier with the way it's turned out like this than how I would have felt otherwise. I'm quite pleased thinking about a possible relationship with Mitchell and this other girl. The chemistry is pretty high, which surprised me!

I was pretty sure Marius would go over quite well with Cordy and Eliot, especially with Cordy. He ticks a lot of boxes that I can imagine her being concerned with. And Tim and Marius are very good together.

Eddie's in the initial stages of his decision, so he's still very excited about it, because it's so new to him. For Mitchell and Tim's sake, he'll hopefully pipe down a bit soon!

  7. Hi. It's Fini, who Wordpress refuses to acknowledge...
I knew that was Susannah in the club!

Anyway, I don't think you assigned Eddie a major yet. I'm like that myself with my fiance, pulling out random tidbits of whatever I'm reading to share, whether they want to hear it or not. *sheepish*

As soon as you said Dixie transferred, I knew she was the other townie. So that was your plan all along: to get Mitchell in with a playable. Well played. j/k

I'd like to think I won't space out on a date. I've been late, but I've never forgotten. It's easy to space out, so I understand Tim's plight. He should set a timer; it works wonders. :)

    1. Susannah is quite distinctive, I guess, even after so long without seeing her!

Thinking about it now, I don't think I'd assigned Eddie a major either. I definitely would have noted it in his profile (the one I have for him in Scrivener) if I hadI'm kind of the same with trivia. I didn't pull that out of nowhere. ;) Tim just looked so irritated and I had to write it in, lol.

Well, I didn't plan leaving Dixie behind but on the other hand, I had never planned for her and Mitchell to stay together forever. I guess she was always going to be his big heartbreak but my forgetfulness forced my hand a little earlier!

Tim definitely needs to make use of timers or some kind of reminder system! I should go and find a default replacement so all my sims have smartphones again. There are plenty of apps for that. ;)

  8. Ahaha, I was coming to read about Audrey and Jack's wedding, but scrolled down a bit and thought "oh, come on, I can't miss a story about Emma!", scrolled down a bit more and thought "oh no, Mitchell! I can't skip that!!!". I prevented myself from scrolling more (for now at least), but HOW GOOD IT IS TO SEE ALL THESE FACES! <3

Back to Mitchell!!!! AWWWW!!!! How sad!!! Dixie was such the perfect match for him! At least, it's what I had thought when they first met. *sigh*
Good to see Tim and Marius are such a lovely couple! <3
And, wow, Lauren!!! How much she has changed!!!

    1. LOL, scrolling can be dangerous! I do the same thing at so many other sites. :D I wasn't sure if I was going to lose all these faces, so I'm honestly happy to see them every time I load my game.

Dixie and Mitchell were a good match, you're not wrong there. But this other playable I have in mind for him is, at least technically, an even better match. They have even higher chemistry than Tim and Marius and those boys are doing pretty well chemistry-wise.

I love Lauren. She'll look back to her normal self in the next entry you read (which you've already read, lol).
