Lump

Round 34: August 2040 (Winter)

Rob Ashton is 39, Patience is 38, Felicity is 7 and Patrick is 4.
(Claudia is 39, Josie is 38, Daphne is 9, Jude is 8, Iris is 6 and Andrew is 4)

Narrated by Patience Ashton

I don’t want to push her into anything but I really do think Felicity could follow in my footsteps one day.

She is so incredibly dramatic. You should see the elaborate deaths she acts out when she plays with Patrick.

Patrick loves it, so of course, she does it more. There’s little she loves more than positive attention.

With my current film, I don’t finish on set until 7pm, so Rob has been on dinner duty for the past few months. He’s a better cook than me, so I’m sure he’s not getting any complaints.

I’m really missing family dinner time though. I feel so out of the loop on all the goings on at school.

I don’t get home too late, so I do get to see them before they go off to bed but they’re often already whiny and tired by that point, especially Patrick.

Patrick has always been an easy kid to parent but he’s just switched to full day pre-school a couple of weeks ago and the adjustment is wearing on him. He’s asleep before I even turn out his light at night.

We can’t complain about that, as it gives us a nice few hours of time together before we go off to bed ourselves.

Rob and I are both off work on the weekends, so we try to do things together as a family then. Right now, it’s often board games at home.

As much as I love hanging out with the kids, I am getting a little tired of endless games of Don’t Wake The Llama.

I think Rob is too. Felicity and Patrick love it, so we put up with it. But as soon as it gets warmer, we’re going to venture outside and do something different.

Claudia and Josie often bring their kids over on the weekend, just for a group play date and a catch up for us.

Iris and Felicity are only a grade apart in school and they’ve become quite close friends.

They usually go and play on their own up in Felicity’s room, often accompanied by our dog Scotty.

Patrick stays downstairs with Daphne, Jude and Andrew and plays yet more Don’t Wake The Llama.

It’s one of Andrew’s favourite games, because he can be noisy and a little destructive.

Andrew has to make everything loud. He’s like a younger, masculine version of Josie.

I don’t know how Josie and Troy have kept their sanity.

They probably have it a little easier than Josie's parents did, seeing I’ve never seen him kick another kid in the head, like Josie did to me when we were kids.

After I was nominated for that award a couple of years back, Rob was very worried about what the increased visibility would do to our family and our lifestyle.

He thought the media would start following us around and make it difficult for us to live our lives.

But that really hasn’t happened. We’re still able to go out and do everything we did before. No one bothers us.
Sometimes I’ll catch a photographer out of the corner of my eye but if they want to take a picture of me buying groceries, then whatever.

I’m not going to let it stop me from doing whatever I need or want to do.

Rob’s still more comfortable when we’re hanging out at home but I think he’d feel that way anyway, no matter what I did for a living.

I always wanted a whole heap of children but I’m 38 now and only have two, so that’s probably not going to happen!

I also happened to marry a man who has always been pretty adamant that he only wanted two, which also makes having another far less likely.

So I’ve been on birth control since Patrick was born and am absolutely fanatical about taking it.

But Rob and I just found out that I am pregnant again, so birth control is never 100%!

Rob took the news pretty well, considering he was absolutely sure he was done with kids.

It’s very early days and with my history of miscarriage, we want to be cautious. We know the rest of the family is going to be incredibly excited for us when we share our news but for now, we’re keeping it quiet.

This is such a massive shock. Neither of us were expecting to add to our family at all and we’re still processing. I’m sure I’ll be thrilled once I get a few more weeks in but I’m not quite there yet!

Notes:
  • Title is from Lump by the Presidents of the United States of America.
  • Patience's pregnancy was very much unplanned! With my birth control system, Patience is on BC and Rob is not. Usually one sim on BC is enough, but obviously not this time. I'm kind of excited, even though it's kind of screwed up my plans. It always feels weird when Sullivan doesn't have any babies due! Patience is due in May 2041.
  • And look, they really were talking about the pregnancy at the end there! This never used to happen in Sullivan 1.0, so I was really happy to see that little speech bubble!
  • Not much else to say, except sorry that updates have been so sparse! I've been quite busy with work, then had a bit of a sim slump. Now I'm on holidays and people keep wanting me to go out and be social with them, rather than letting me sit at home and play my sims. ;) But I'm hoping to be able to start playing Anthony and Noah before I go back to work. At least!

  1. Whoa, did not expect a pregnancy, wow. That should be interesting especially given the fact that they're older and thought that they were done with kiddos.

    1. It was about the last thing I was expecting too! Patience, surprisingly, didn't have a baby want, so I think she was pretty sure she was done, despite her IFS. But we'll see how Baby #3 fits into the family. :)

  2. Soon as I read the title I started humming the song. I LOVE that song. And the parody Weird Al did. I'm so thrilled about baby number three. I was thinking after I commenting on your post over at N99, how lovely it would be for them to have another since they have such beautiful kids already. I just hope this pregnancy goes smoothly for her!

    1. Ha, me too! I went to see the band earlier this year actually and they played the whole of that album. They put on such a fun show.

Anyway, I'm pretty excited about this baby too. Patience and Rob did make some pretty gorgeous kids, so I have my fingers crossed everything goes well for them this time.

  3. Pregnancy and the baby will of course affect her career, won't it?
Love the family stories, I just can't get enough of those Sim kids :-)

    1. It definitely will affect Patience's career in some way. I haven't quite decided how I'll write it in. Maybe I'll bump her down a level and have her work her way back up. It won't take her long but it would do to represent the step back many women have to take with their careers when they have a baby. Glad you enjoyed the update!

  4. Alright, a pregnancy! I always did want Patience and Rob to have more babies. I hope this pregnancy is smooth sailing for her. LOL I forgot that Josie kicked Patience in the head! I thought that was another kid. At the top, I was so surprised to see that Patience looked so much like a Gottlieb, till I remembered that her grandmother was one, lol.

I'm glad to see you back to simming. Put a Do Not Disturb sign on your door, LOL.

    1. Ha, it's pretty exciting! I'll have to get a move on with playing so we see the baby within a reasonable period of time!

Yeah, that was Josie and Patience. I think Josie got hauled into the principal's office for that one. She was such a little brat.

You know, I always thought Patience looked exactly like Lake but you're right - those eyes are definitely Gottlieb-y. ;) Rose is Gottlieb all over, so compared to her sister, I never thought that of Patience.

  5. Something told me that Patience would get pregnant. I'm glad and Patience and Patrick are happy about the new baby. I wonder how she's going to feel about being an older (by Hollywood standards) actress and now a new mother again. I wonder how this will work out for her career. I am hoping for another redhead. There's never enough of those, honestly.

    1. LOL, you should have told me then! ;) I had no idea she'd get pregnant. It's been a long time since one of my sims on BC has got pregnant. I'm kind of glad I now know it can still happen, because it does throw a little spanner in the works and make things fun.

I'm sure it will come as no surprise to anyone that I'm also hoping for a redhead. I can never get enough redheads either. :)

  6. Yay babies! The paparazzi are going to have even more fun stalking Patience now. :)

    1. Yes, they definitely will, I imagine! But I always picture someone like Patience (very nice and very outgoing) just taking it in her stride and not being too bothered by it. I write it differently from Matilda, because she's a lot grouchier and not as outgoing.

  7. Ooooh! I am loving the surprise baby. :D As much as it messes up plans, it's always so much fun when the unexpected happens. Sometimes. Haha!

I do wonder how that will work into her career though...

    1. I'm quite excited about it too now, though I definitely had a brief moment of panic when I heard those baby chimes! I can never be too upset for too long about a baby. ;)

It will definitely slow her career down. I find it very interesting that on paper, Patience should be further ahead than Matilda in her career (being older and more outgoing) but it's Matilda who's one level from the top. I might have to find a way to write that in somehow.

  8. Aww, this was really cute and Patience is a very pretty sim. :) Felicity is adorable, both the kids are. I love unplanned things that happen in game too, especially babies!

Have to admit I'm a bit of a lurker of your blog. ;) That sounds way creepy but anyway, lol! I do love that you've been posting for so long though, I think it's awesome. I sometimes drop by to read your gameplay notes too, for tips & references, they're quite helpful, and you seem so organized! :)

    1. Glad you enjoyed it! This is one of my most attractive families, I think, lol! I think it's the unplanned things that make this game still so much fun after so long.

Nah, I think I have quite a few lurkers - it's not creepy! I find that I have to be somewhat organised to do this blog. I'm not organised in RL but with the game, I am! I've been doing it so long now that it's almost second nature for me to write down every little thing.

  9. I really wasn't expecting them to have another baby, but I do remember you saying a long time ago that Patience had a pretty high IFS, so I shouldn't have surprised me that they would add to their family one day.
I'm very excited about this baby, can't wait to find out what they're having. Do you have a preference?

I know you still have some work, but I'm really glad you're getting your game back on track!

    1. Patience's IFS is 9 but the funny thing is that her IFS didn't have anything to do with this! Rob's IFS is 2 and they seemed to have mutually decided that that's where they'd stop. This was just plain old birth control failure, lol!

Rob and Patience already have a boy and a girl, so I'm not desperate to see them with any particular sex but I'm hoping for a girl. Of my 8 babies and toddlers, only 2 are girls - Wren Novak and Phoebe Jacobson. So I'd like to balance that out a bit, if I can.

  10. I can't believe that Patience is having another baby! What a surprise! Especially with a more advanced age too, you just don't expect birth control failure at that stage. Is this the Inteenimator BC or ACR's? Their kids are super cute, and look at Iris' button nose! Andrew is totally like his Mom, love it! Looking forward to seeing what they have! Are the kids going to have to share rooms?

    1. I know, I really wasn't expecting this! This was ACR birth control, by the way.

I love all the kids in this update. Daphne and Iris are two more of my kids who I didn't think would be so adorable. Love them though.

The kids could share rooms, because the bedrooms are large enough but Rob will probably lose his office instead! I'm not especially fond of it, there's another study downstairs and I think Patience and Rob would be willing to give that up for their kids. Luc, not so much, which is why he has a recording studio in his house while Marcus and Felix share a bedroom!
