The Carmody-Halmi wedding

Round 36: February 2044 (Summer)

Daniel Halmi is 37 and Susannah Carmody is 34.

It was Sarah's idea to hold the wedding at Mum's house and it turned out to be perfect for us. We didn't have a huge amount of people we wanted to invite, so there was plenty of space.

I also decided that a small wedding called for a very small bridal party, so we just had Sarah as my bridesmaid and Nick as Daniel’s best man.

Shortly before everyone sat down for the ceremony, I looked over at Sarah and was wondering if she’d make it through the whole thing. She’s heading into her second trimester and this is her worst pregnancy yet.

Unfortunately, she ended up running for the bathroom. She had warned us that might happen and said we should just go on with it if it did.

I didn’t really want to but I followed her wishes anyway and we started the ceremony.

She was back in time for us to exchange rings, at which point I felt I could relax a little more.

Sarah’s illness aside, our wedding day was wonderful.

We’re saving for a house and didn’t want to accept handouts from anyone, so we couldn’t afford anything super fancy.

But we’re not super fancy people anyway. We just love each other and wanted to get married.

We could have done that in our bathroom if we’d wanted to, so anything extra at all is just a huge bonus.

I’m not really much of a baker (cooking is much, much more my speed) but I thought we might be able to save some money if I made the cake myself.

It all disappeared pretty quickly once it was served and everyone seemed to enjoy it, so I guess I was successful there!

We’d been thinking about dissembling the play equipment for the wedding but we were glad we decided to leave it up in the end.

It was nice for the kids to have something fun to do, rather than sitting around bored.

Ryan and Thomas are 12 and 13 now but even they took advantage.

Sarah has often said even though the boys are in high school now, they’re still big kids sometimes.

They’re both really great with Zac as well. He totally idolises his big cousins.

Daniel hadn’t spent a lot of time talking with Sam before but they got to chatting at our reception. As it turns out, they got on like a house on fire.

I was beginning to wonder if I’d ever drag my new husband away from my ex-boyfriend!

I did, thankfully. Having a smaller amount of guests, most of them close family who we see all the time, really cut down on the amount of mingling we had to do!

Our wedding was the first time Rebecca and Nathan had left their twins with anyone else. Byron and Noel spent the day with Rebecca's parents.

Nathan seemed a little worried about them; Rebecca was just happy to get a break.

She’s only about six weeks into it but she doesn’t think she’s quite cut-out for staying at home with babies all day. Her sister stayed home for years and Rebecca’s not sure how she coped. She feels like she’s already going a bit nuts.

I don’t remember feeling like that. Maybe it was just too long ago or maybe Zac was an unusually good baby. Or maybe it’s just because I didn’t have two of them!

I know Mum is looking forward to me and Daniel having another. I spotted her chatting it up with Jack and Audrey, mostly about their little 2-year-old, Zoe.

As much as Mum loves watching her grandkids grow up, she misses having tiny ones around. Especially since Alex left that stage behind.

Daniel and I want to work on giving her one more grandchild. We just have to get all our ducks in a row first.

I thought for sure Mum would say something about grandkids in her speech but she didn’t. It was all about how much she loved us and how happy she was to welcome Daniel into the family, officially.

We were both crying a little, by the end of it.

In the lead-up to the wedding, Zac got a bit obsessed with the idea of giving his own speech. On the day, he kind of chickened out and gave us each a huge hug instead.

As far as Daniel and I are concerned, our wedding day could not have gone any better.

It was a bit anti-climactic to go from our wedding back to our little apartment but Sam and Julia took Zac for the week, so we had the place to ourselves at least.

We would have loved a honeymoon but we’re thinking of that as something to look forward to in the future, when we’re settled in a new house.

Until then, we’re going to make the most of our time as newlyweds right here at home.

Notes:
  • So glad to finally get this done! I know this isn't a small guest list for a lot of people (I think it was 18 sims) but my guest lists often push 30, so this was tiny in comparison! I was glad to be able to fit everyone into the Carmody-Moretti backyard!
  • Susannah is a Halmi now, so we'll get a new surname in the mix when I get a baby out of these two. That will hopefully be soon. I don't want to wait too long, because Susannah will be 35 next time I play her, so I'd like to get them into their new place off-screen. I'll do a tour when it's all decorated, of course.
  • Susannah has had a baby want for a while
  • I have some outtakes from the wedding that I'll post up on Tumblr, so keep an eye out there if you're interested.

  1. Such a sweet wedding, as always. It sounds like you have their house picked out. I can't wait to see it, you decorate homes so well.

    1. I don't have a house picked out, actually! I did your credit system on Daniel and Susannah though and they're entitled to quite a big loan. Kind of excited to pick one out now, because the only houses they can't afford are ones I'd never consider for them anyway. :D

  2. Aaaaw weddings are the best, aren't they! I never can make them look as great as you do, but I love playing them anyway, and was happy to discover that right at the first household into my current round of playing in New Max, one part of a couple rolled the wish to get married.

    1. I think it's always just lovely to get two sims married, really! In much earlier hoods, I've done the traditional sim bathroom wedding and I got excited even about that, lol. Glad you enjoyed this one!

  3. This was a lovely wedding, very much akin to my own as we bought a house and hosted it there just a month after moving in. Nice that the kids use the playground, Sarah brings a crew when she goes anywhere!

I'm excited for these two, to see their new home, and have a family together. It's nice that everyone gets along as well, that makes it nice for Zac to not have any animosity among all the parents. Poor Sarah, I'm sure this makes her happy to not have anymore!

    1. Aw, didn't know you had a backyard wedding! That's probably what I'd want, if someone had a suitable backyard for the proceedings. :) Ha, Nick and Sarah have quite the brood, though they fortunately didn't have to travel at all for this wedding. :)

I'm very keen to get this family into a new house, though I'll need to pick one out first. As for babies - dying to have one that looks like Susannah! Zac didn't inherit much from her at all, apart from his hair. And I think this one will definitely be Sarah's last. This will fulfill Nick's IFS and Sarah's is nutso, so she was never going to reach it anyway. ;)

    1. Glad you enjoyed the wedding! It didn't come out quite the way I wanted it and I was a teensy bit disappointed for a while...but looking at it now, I'm very happy with it. :)

  5. As usual; a lovely wedding! The garden looks great, even with the playground in the background, I think it fits in with a backyard wedding!

I can't wait to see their house.
And seeing Susannah has the want for a baby I'm hoping to meet the newest member soon :)

    1. Yeah, Susannah and Daniel aren't the types who'd be bothered by the swing set, so I'm glad I left it in. It gives the wedding a nice homey vibe. :)

I keep forgetting to go house hunting for these two. I have a blog page in my bullet journal, so I should add it to the list, so I remember. I'm pretty keen to get them breeding. ;)

  6. Aww, there is nothing worse than morning sickness as a bridesmaid. Poor Sarah. I feel bad now because I know I've put some of my sims through that ordeal before, lol!

"We could have done that in our bathroom if we’d wanted to" LOL! Very appropriate quip considering many sims among many games have probably done exactly that over the years! :D

I love backyard weddings! They're so cozy and intimate, and not many couples are lucky enough to have access to such a great space. Great on the budget, too, I'm sure. Their pictures under the arch are so so sweet! I'm jealous. I want those poses for TS4!

I can't wait to see their new place when you pick it. I love new house shopping for my sims.

    1. I've put a few sims through it in the past two. Lia was pregnant at Olivia's wedding and I think Audrey was pregnant at someone's wedding...Edward and Lucy's, maybe? I don't think I've ever had one run to throw up during the ceremony before though! Poor Sarah.

Glad you liked the bathroom joke! It was irresistible once I thought of it. It's been a long time since I had a bathroom wedding in TS2, though I do have them in TS3 sometimes!

Right? Susannah and Daniel are very lucky Sarah and Nick have so many damn kids and needed such a massive house. Worked out very well for everybody! Hopefully I can find an equally perfect place for Daniel and Susannah, though it won't be quite so large.
