Lot tour: Nick and Sarah's new old house

This house actually took me a lot less time to decorate than I was expecting! It is huge, as you'll see, but I got it all done over the weekend. Alex's nursery was already done from birthdays, whenever it was he turned one.

Anyway, so here is Nick and Sarah's lovely house. It's the same one they were living in before I decided to rebuild (though I only got to play with them there for one play session) and was built by Tanja. Tanja has included some layout pics but I'm going to share my own as well, so you can see the furniture arrangement but also because I've changed the layout downstairs very slightly.

Downstairs...

...and upstairs. I know these are crappy pics! It's a massive house and it's hard to get it all in frame!

The entry, which is once again mostly devoted to the family dog, Christy.

Living room.

Study, which is probably my least favourite room. :\ It needs a little something extra.

Kitchen/dining. I downloaded those glass block windows with Amar's photography studio and I can already see myself using them a lot! I'm thinking I might try to work them into my hospital somewhere, actually.

Bathroom. There are two and this is the smaller one. There's nothing extra in the bigger one, just more space!

Alex's nursery was already done, as I mentioned. I changed the carpet and added lamps though.

Nick and Sarah's bedroom.

Kimberly's bedroom.

Thomas's bedroom. The boy likes his neutrals!

Ryan's bedroom. Ryan is not as fond of neutrals!

Catherine's tastes veer to the eyeblinding as well!

Three more houses to go now! I can't believe how long this has taken me. I put up the first update post-rebuild in early January (possibly New Year's Day, actually) last year.

  1. It's very nice, and each room reflects the individual character of its owner. The living room, kitchen and dining area are so well done, one can really imagine a large family live and entertain there.

Like you, I sometimes can't believe how long playing one round takes me, but when I get back to a household, I have to re-read my old blog posts to remind myself of what was going on with them last time :-)

    1. Thank goodness for Tanja, for giving me this incredible canvas to work on! I already know the house is very playable, so I just had to make it look the way I wanted it to, really. :)

This round and latter half of the last one have taken me longer than it otherwise might have, because I had to decorate a lot before playing every single family! I am hoping to speed up a tad once I finish that but I'm not sure if I'll actually be able to. And funnily enough, I have to go re-read my last update for this family today, so I don't write in any inconsistencies when I finally start writing!

  2. I was wondering if you would move them in this house again. I glad you still like it :)

The house looks nice, so much different than how it looks in my game. (and of course now I'm thinking of giving it a make-over :))
It's warm and welcomming, and I like the blue used in the common areas.
The kids rooms are adorable, and I love that they actually represent every kid, with right colors for the younger ones and neutrals for the older one, because he's not into bright colors.
I also like the different styles in bedrooms for Nick and Sarah and for Kimberly.

I'm so glad you'te getting close to the end of rebuilding your sims' houses! I can't believe it's been over a year now! But every house looks great!
I think you're brave for starting over like you did, with an empty downloads-folder, and having to recreate everything!
Sometimes I think about doing rebuilding SimsVille as well, because I have some townies 2 times, and I did something wrong and have a lot of character files because of that, but I just don't seem to find the energy, especially not when I also have to refill my downloads-folder.
So I think you're brave for this! And I'm sure you'll be enjoying your sims just as much as before, if not even more!

    1. Of course, I hardly got to play with it last time! Unless I've really hated the house (which is far more common with small houses, for me), I've tried to move the sims back into their original homes. Just haven't been able to track them all down!

Ryan's favourite colour is yellow, Catherine's is blue...and Thomas's is brown! LOL. It's so easy to decorate in neutrals but I find it hard to make the rooms look as interesting, I guess, because my tastes are closer to Ryan and Catherine's. Glad it all works though!

Ha, brave or crazy? I didn't have much choice, really. I couldn't play the hood the way it was but I did absolutely want to continue, so that meant I had to rebuild. Unfortunately. I still miss my old hood sometimes. So many community lots I loved! I definitely wouldn't have rebuilt until my hand was forced, so I don't blame you for not having any energy to rebuild SimsVille!

  3. I love this house! I love all the quirky little touches throughout :) The kitchen is so cool, I adore those glass blocks in the kitchen and I think they would look really good in a hospital.
I love Ryan and Catherine's rooms too! They are so bright and colourful and that desk in Catherine's room is the sweetest, any idea where you go it?
Actually I just love all the rooms! I can't believe it has been that long, it really hasn't felt like it and I think it's been quite fun to see you rebuild the hood. I'm definitely going to miss all these lot tours (even if you're not haha) but it will definitely be exciting to see the schools and hospital and other community lots being rebuilt too! Cannot wait!

    1. I guess with seven sims in the house, there's bound to be some quirkiness! Glad you like the glass blocks. I'm very keen to get back to my hospital (which has been sadly neglected of late) to see if I can add some interest with them.

The desk in Catherine's room is from one of the stuff packs. Teen Style Stuff, if I'm not mistaken. It's just one of the default textures. :)

Ha, I guess it hasn't been dragging as much for you guys as it has been for me! Now that I have a decent amount of CC, I'm enjoying decorating again but I'm so keen to get moving with everything!

  4. Carla, I feel like Hannah, it has been nice for us readers getting treated to all these amazing lot tours while you've rebuilt. But also like Tanja said, it was a huge undertaking and you've done such a diligent, thorough job of it. I admire your persistence too!

I like the teal in Ryan's room, it is so striking!
If I had the glass wall I'd abuse it so much! I'd probably be tempted to put it in half my buildings at least, whether it was the right style or not!

Tanja, it seems like a really playable layout. I really like it a lot.

    1. I'm glad you've been enjoying all the tours! Tours won't stop once I'm done but there will probably be more community lots and less houses in the future.

The colour on Ryan's bed and curtains? That was a last minute thing! I wasn't happy with that room and adding those things seemed to pull it together. I'm looking forward to actually playing this place and seeing it in action. :)

  5. Really like their house, you did a great job decorating. I really like Catherine's taste in style, and bold colors, gorgeous! Excited that you are nearing the end of the rebuild, then you can start building community lots! Kimberly's room is very tranquil, I can see her relaxing in there to escape all those grandkids. Despite the dark colors, the kitchen looks very nice, and not at all bleak. I really like how it all came together, as well as the living room.

    1. Catherine's bedroom is my favourite. I like using colour, as you guys may have been able to tell! Glad I achieved what I wanted to in the kitchen. Black can be hard to use (it's Sarah's favourite) without it ending up looking too gothy and depressing. I had a look at their old kitchen for inspiration with that, actually. It's definitely the room in the house which is most similar to the old place.

Man, no one is happier that I'm nearing the end of this rebuild (the residential side of things, anyway) than I am! Being able to go into any one of my sims' houses and knowing it'll already be decorated will be amazing, lol!

  6. Oh I love Catherine's room! That's my first reaction and I don't really find it too eyeblinding, though it is bright! I really like the living room and the study, but then cooler colours always appealed more to me than warm tones do. However, the room that makes me totally envious is Sarah and Nick's bedroom. I love it! I'd happily sleep in that room and I like how it's modern without going overboard. Overall I really like the colder and darker colours and I find it all pretty relaxing. And seeing those curtains reminds me that I've been meaning to find some re-colors of Holy Simoly's curtains for awhile now so I should probably do that (or bite the bullet and do them myself...).

Anyhow, lovely house and look forward to seeing you finish up the residental part of your rebuild!

    1. No, Catherine's room is only eyeblinding compared to Thomas's, really! Colourful is my preference anyway. ;) I'm really glad to hear you like Nick and Sarah's room because that was the room where I was thinking "Hmmm, I don't know. Too much?" I like it but I wasn't sure anyone else would!

I have plenty of recolours of the HS curtains on my Pinterest curtains board (yes, I have a board just for curtains - the decor category got way too big!) I wouldn't bother doing any myself unless you really can't find what you want, because there are so many out there. Unless you really feel like fiddling around with SimPE and your paint program, of course.

  7. Wow, it is a big house but I love it. All the rooms are really spacious. I'm so jealous of the family pictures you always have hanging in your sims homes too. :)
The modern kitchen looks pretty cool as well. Nicely decorated throughout!

    1. It's a massive house but that's kind of necessary with this family! Plenty of room for everyone. The family pics are just a minute's work for me to do (each) but I love the effect they give to each of my houses. :) Glad you like the house!

  8. I really love all the little details you put into your lots and houses. It really encourages me to "up my game" when it comes to decorating my own sim places. I'm so lazy normally, but after seeing all of you other bloggers go the extra mile, I try to put little personal touches here and there. I hate that the TS3 picture frames corrupt so easily, though! Always end up losing my family pictures, sigh.

    1. I think the TS2 pics can corrupt as well. :\ It never happened to me but it was one of the many things that pushed me into doing my pics on custom frames in SimPE instead. Doing custom recolours in TS3 seems so annoying though!

Glad you like the house though! Tanja gave me a very playable canvas and I was glad to finally get around to putting my own spin on it. :)
