The Gray-Lachance wedding

Round 35: December 2041 (Summer)

Edward Lachance and Lucy Gray are 26.

Edward and I live together but we still decided to do the traditional thing and spend the night before our wedding apart. I slept on the sofa bed at my parents’ place and had a leisurely breakfast with them in the morning.

Even aside from the tradition, it made sense for me to be elsewhere. There would have been no space in our tiny little apartment for me, my mum, plus Julia and Audrey to get ready.

I was so excited to have my hair and make-up done and get into my dress. That was when it truly sunk in that I was getting married!

Julia wasn’t quite as thrilled to put hers on, I know. Pink is not her favourite colour but I was glad she agreed to wear it for me.

Audrey, on the other hand, loved her dress. Her own bridesmaids wore pink, albeit a different shade.

I was a little worried about her being too tired for bridesmaid duties but she’s approaching her third trimester now and apart from having to pee all the time, she says she’s feeling fantastic.

Dad got himself ready in a quarter of the time it took us, so he was downstairs reading the paper until it was time for us to finally head to the church.

I was so happy to walk down the aisle and lay eyes on Edward again. I was a little nervous.

After all, we’d invited a ton of people, mostly from Edward’s side of the family.

But we said our vows and exchanged rings and no one stumbled over their words or said the wrong name or anything, so we really had nothing to worry about.

And most importantly, obviously, we were married at the end of it.

Once we got to the reception venue, everyone was very keen to get started on the lunch on offer.

It was nice as it meant that we could ease into the mingling, rather than having everyone approach us at once.

We sat down to lunch with Edward’s cousin Austin and his girlfriend Nora. I’d met Austin before but neither of us had met Nora. She seems really sweet though and is studying to be a vet.

She also did most of the talking, which was a relief for me and Edward, seeing we’re not very good at small talk!

There was plenty of time for small talk after lunch!

It was probably a bit easier for Edward. Most of the guests were from his family - my family is so small, there weren’t really many of them to invite!

I was meeting some people for the very first time and others I just didn’t know well, so it was a bit more of a challenge. Everyone I spoke to wished us well and commented on how beautiful everything was.

We’re biased, of course, but our wedding really was beautiful. I spent probably way too long choosing a cake but it was so worth it in the end!

It was lemon flavoured on the inside and was delicious. We couldn’t resist a silly moment of squishing it into each other’s faces!

Childish for sure, but still funny. Or at least, we thought so!

I spotted Audrey grabbing a rather sizeable slice of cake for herself. She’s eating for two at the moment, I guess!

I was sort of surprised to see Julia socialising! It’s really rare that she meets someone who doesn’t flat out annoy her right off the bat but she seemed to be chatting quite happily to Nora.

Having several get-togethers with both sets of parents present before the wedding was a good idea. Mum and Tatiana are like old friends now!

Given our parents are all fairly shy though, we decided to forgo toasts. I think any of them would have done it had we asked (Jonas did one at Audrey’s wedding) but didn’t see it as something strictly necessary. We sat down together after cake and talked together and I think that was more enjoyable for everyone.

I set some time aside to talk to Julia as well. She was definitely enjoying herself but it was also pretty clear that not getting the principal position was still playing on her mind.

She did cheer up quite a bit when we started talking about her upcoming wedding though. It’s just under a year away now. I’m quite curious to hear about her own plans and what kinds of things she’ll have at her wedding.

If Julia and Sam have a wedding even half as wonderful as ours, they’ll be very lucky indeed. I don’t think Edward or I wanted our day to end.

But as it got dark outside, everyone seemed to be all danced out and slowly started to trickle out. I suppose all good things must come to an end.

By that stage, Edward and I were kind of tired ourselves and were looking forward to a little time to ourselves.

We would have loved to go on a honeymoon but we’re saving for a house and can’t quite afford it. So it was a honeymoon at home for us.

Chris was good enough to give us some privacy by agreeing to stay at Veronica’s flat for a couple of days. Not quite as amazing as a honeymoon but the closest we can get for now.

Notes:
  • Yay! It's done! I was so excited to get to this wedding and now I'm not sure what to do with myself. Next up with be the Christmas 2041 update, with Josie and Troy and then January birthdays, so that's exciting. :)
  • The champagne set did not work the way I expected it to, which was the real reason I skipped the toast! I was experimenting with doing these weddings as just regular gatherings rather than wedding parties but it appears you do need to be at an actual wedding party to "Toast to the Newlyweds". So that was lame.
  • But I am happy with everything else! I remembered having those suits in Sullivan 1.0 and was happy that someone on Tumblr tracked them down again for me. I'd got it in my head that I was going to use them for this wedding and nothing else would have done!
  • Also, I know you guys are wondering about babies from these two, so I will say not yet. Lucy has the want and Edward doesn't, so I imagine there will be some discussion about it in their next update. :)

  1. A great wedding, and a good explanation for not having toasts :-)
Love the church and the reception venue!

    1. Heh, had to think of something about the toasts, lol! I can take full credit for the venue, so thank you but the church was built by Laura over at Lakeside Heights. :)

  2. Ooh, Edward and Lucy’s wedding was so traditional and romantic. I love her dress. I am sure that I saw Audrey with her baby bump before but maybe only the first, smaller one. She looked great as a bridesmaid and it was hilarious the way that piece of cake looked huge.
Lucy’s upsweep looked very pretty on her, very soft and romantic. She and Edward look so adorable together, and it is really neat that they both have the freckles gene.
It was nice that Nora could hold her own with Julia.
Edward and Lucy were so considerate of their parents’ needs as well, having them meet several times before the wedding, and not making them toast ;-)

I hope they enjoyed their honeymoon days, and what ever would make you think your readers would want to know how soon they are having babies??! They'll just be so cute!

    1. I've been looking for the right sim to wear that dress for years! Yep, you've seen Audrey with her little baby bump before the wedding, definitely at least in the birthday update where I bumped her up. She appeared on a community lot not long after though, so has annoyingly had the third trimester bump for almost the entirety of her second trimester. She's not even officially in her third trimester until January!

I know you guys way too well, I guess. Possibly because I have the same priorities. I often think my entire reason for doing anything in this game is to get more babies, lol!

  3. Such a lovely wedding! They both looked amazing, and it's good to know they've enjoyed their day and wished it would have lasted longer!
Both venues look great! I have to remember to add that church somewhere I'll actually use it, because it's a really beautifull one!

It's nice of Chris to let the house to them for a couple of days, that way the can enjoy their first as newlyweds together, even though it wasn't a real honeymoon.

January birthdayposts are alwaus something to look forward to, because of all the birthdays of course, but also because it means the start of a new round, or that you're halfway!

    1. Glad you enjoyed the wedding. I was very happy with the way it turned out for them, so I have to assume Lucy and Edward were too. :) First Grace is a lovely venue but I didn't feel like redoing the function hall part to fit almost 30 sims, so everyone moved to Starry Nights for the reception.

I'm very, very excited about January birthdays this year! I have quite a few age-ups and I always have so much fun giving everyone their new looks. :)

  4. Babies! Yes! I instantly went from yay, wedding.. are they pregnant now? This was a beautiful wedding and Lucy was a lovely bride. I love that her sister is put out about being usurped by Audrey for the matron/maid of honor position, but Lucy knows how to perk her back up. Glad that both of the Moms are friends, they seem like they all get along well and even invite Lucy's parents to holidays/kid parties without any issues. I really like the suits with the bridesmaid dresses, glad you found them, and Audrey is adorable with her baby bump. It was funny to not have a single kid in attendance, there's usually a kid getting a big slice of cake, but not this time. Soon enough Corbin will be a Grandpa though.

    1. LOL, just like everyone else, eh? I'm excited for when these two eventually have babies but I guess they have some time before that happens. I'll probably try to get them their own place first.

Ah, I wasn't clear - I didn't mention it in the story but Julia was the maid of honour. I don't think she would have had it any other way. She's still sulking about the principal job at the high school going to Finn and I expect she will be for a while. ;)

I don't think I have two couples better suited for being friends than Tatiana and Jonas and Corbin and Pamela. They're quite alike and they seem to really mesh well together. So it's good for them their kids ended up married to each other!

I almost had Sarah and Nick's kids come but then didn't bother, because it was just extra people on the lot. If Stella and Oscar had been older, they would have come but toddlers are kind of annoying at weddings and I tend to only have them there if they're the kids of the couple getting married. Then it doesn't really make sense for them not to be there!

  5. What a beautiful wedding. I'm also trying not to immediately make my newlyweds have babies because in reality, everyone doesn't automatically have a baby. It's tough though.

I really like the wedding venue. It seems spacious enough to actually have a party be playable.

    1. It's hard for me too, though probably not with Edward and Lucy. They're just in such a very crap position right now to have a baby, so it would be such a bad idea. I'm generally okay with not purposely putting my sims into not-so-great situations (unless I want to, lol).

I'm glad you liked the wedding. It was actually two venues - the church and then the function hall. The function hall is big enough that I should be able to hold crazy big parties there for a good while to come, lol!

  6. Such a lovely wedding! So happy for these two. And the pink actually looked good! I loved Lucy's dress, especially the neckline and sleeveless quality of it.

I am always amazed when there is a wedding with no drama, haha!

    1. Glad you liked it, especially coming from a fellow pink-hater, lol! A shame Julia didn't quite agree but hey, it wasn't her wedding. ;) I've been desperate to use Lucy's wedding dress for ages - as far back as when Patience and co. were getting married.

LOL, I don't know if I've ever had much drama at a wedding! Honestly, they don't have much opportunity. I run a tight ship when I'm doing weddings. ;)

    1. Glad you enjoyed the wedding! I loved Lucy's dress too (obviously) but I was a little bit limited with the bridesmaid dresses. I like them very much, though they're probably not the dresses I would have chosen if Audrey wasn't pregnant!

  8. Yay wedding! And what a lovely wedding it was too. Despite skipping the toasts, glad everything else went smoothly.

I love the smooshing cake in each others face part. lol We don't get that in TS3, well at least I don't think we do, I've never seen it though. The Bride looked stunning and so did the bridesmaids! :)

    1. Honestly, toasts are always so annoying in my game anyway - I have way too many sims on the lot for them to work properly. That's why my toast pics are always cropped so closely, to hide all the glitchiness! So it was almost a relief that the champagne wasn't working.

I love the cake smooshing too and I like the neat feeding just as much. It's so cute and sweet. As far as I remember, the cake cutting in TS3 is very lame. :( They swiped so many animations from TS2, it's a shame they didn't take that one too. Glad you enjoyed the wedding though. :)
