Learning to fly

Round 33: April 2038 (Autumn)

last update/next update

Rob Ashton is 37, Patience is 36, Felicity is 5 and Patrick is 2.
(Emil is 66 and Anna is 60)
Narrated by Rob Ashton

While Patience was pregnant with Patrick, we took on a huge task and bought our first home. We were both over renting and had outgrown our unit, so seeing we’re in a good financial position, we went house hunting.

Our new house is wonderful. We’ve been here almost two years now, so obviously we’re all settled in but it really didn’t take long for this place to start feeling like home anyway.

I’m glad we got all the moving in stuff out of the way by the time Patrick arrived. It’s really made things less stressful for us.

But that’s partly because Patrick was a really easy baby and as he grows up, we’re finding he’s a pretty easy toddler too.

Not that Felicity was so challenging but Patrick is incredibly easy-going.

They get along really well though. Felicity loves being a big sister. They play together all the time, which is sweet to watch.

As soon as Felicity gets home from school, she rushes right in to go see her brother.

Patrick isn’t really interested in talking too much though, which Patience is a little worried about.

I think he’s just more reserved than Felicity was. He can talk, he just seems to choose not to a lot of the time.

Maybe because Felicity is more than willing to do the talking for both of them!

Every dinner time, Felicity is usually the one controlling the conversation.

She’s quite an opinionated five-year-old and she always has something to say about just about everything.

Most of Felicity’s friends this year at school are a year behind her, so she’s become used to being a leader.

She’s never bratty about it but you can tell she’s fallen into the boss role with her schoolmates.

She's a persuasive kid. Felicity is the reason we are now the proud owners of an enormous dog, who Felicity named Scotty.

We visited Josie and Felicity was playing with Jude and his dog and from then on, she just wouldn't let up about having a dog of her own.

We're probably risking spoiling her but we relented. I don't know that she would have given up until we did.

She’s very creative and is always making up her own little stories. I can see her doing something in the entertainment industry one day too, just like her mother.

Since she went back to work after having Patrick, Patience’s career has been going from strength to strength. She's received so many scripts but her agent was especially keen on particular play he thought she’d be perfect for. The writer was really excited about Patience playing the role. About the only one who wasn’t excited about it was Patience.

Patience doesn't like committing to projects she's not passionate about. She read the script and just didn’t think it was very strong, at least compared to the playwright’s other work.

Had she decided not to take the part, I would have supported that; it’s not like we need the money. But in the end, she gave in to her agent’s relentless nagging and took the role.

In the end, it paid off for her. Patience scored a nomination for a Simovitch Theatre Award for her performance. It was the first time she’d been nominated for a major award, so it was pretty exciting.

She didn’t end up winning but we had a good time at the ceremony anyway.

And the after party was a nice way for Patience and I to have a fun, kid-free evening for a change as well.

Just being nominated has done wonders for her career though. Her first major award nomination led to her being offered her first leading role in a movie!

Patience is thrilled and can’t wait to start shooting. Film is what she really wants to do.

I’m thrilled for her but I’m a little worried too. If the movie is a hit, Patience will likely become a lot more famous. We live a fairly quiet life right now and I hope that doesn’t change too much.

Like when we took the kids out for a nice breakfast on Saturday morning. Are we still going to be able to do it that if the paparazzi start taking an interest in Patience?

I really enjoy those relaxing times on the weekends. I’d really miss it if we couldn’t do things like that any more.

Having such a stressful job, I relish any family time we can get. It beats working at home on the weekends, which I have to do too much.

My most recent case has involved a rather stubborn client, so it's been...interesting. Even right before we went into court, Emil was pondering changing his plea. Emil was up on drink driving charges. He did it, he knew he was probably too drunk to drive when he got in the car, so I don’t know what defense he was expecting me to use.

His wife is absolutely fuming about the whole thing. I haven't dealt with her much but she glared at Emil the whole time we were in court.

Emil will have to deal with whatever punishment Anna is planning on meting out, as well as the court’s penalty. He's been disqualified from driving for four years and has to pay a $2000 fine.

He wasn’t particularly happy with the outcome, although I did tell him what he could expect before we went in.

Emil was lucky to get off as easy as he did. He could have been sent to prison for six months, paid a larger fine or had his driver’s license cancelled for even longer. Considering that, he really didn’t come out of this too badly at all.

I think the court was fair and I did all I could do for Emil but I’m still glad the case is over. I’m going to take a week off work now that it’s done with and am looking forward to spending a little more time at home.

Extras:
Kids get this pop-up all the time, in my experience, but in light of Felicity's mother's profession, I thought it was especially apt!

Patience's script woes and award nomination were prompted by this chance card win. She got a promotion to Leading Lady when she got home from work that day.

  1. Wow, I thought the script bit was a chance card. It would have been nice to see her win, maybe next time. I need to get some entertainers in my hood, they are so much fun.

    1. It had been a while since I've been able to write in a chance card but this one fit in pretty well. :) The Show Business career is a lot of fun. Patience and Matilda are the only Sims I've put in it and really paid attention and I've been enjoying it a lot.

      Thanks for reading and commenting!

  2. I'm glad things are going so well for them. They are a great family and I love reading about them.

    1. Yeah, Rob and Patience are doing pretty well. They've had some tough times, with Patience's miscarriage, so I'm happy they've finally got their little family.

      Thanks for reading and commenting!

  3. I don't know why, but for some reason I was expecting them the announce that they were having another baby! But like I said I don't know why I thought that since their little family seems perfect the way it is!

I'm glad the parents had some 'alone-time' at the after party, even if it wasn't that alone, it sure can do some good to get out of the house without the children!

Again I loved how you wrote Emil's ROS in, and I really loved the shots at the courthouse (I don't know if I'm using the right word here).

    1. Rob has reached his IFS, so I might not take them off birth control. Patience's IFS is 9 but I can see her being content with the 2 she has, after the miscarriage she had, her stressful pregnancies and being so settled now.

Yes, you're right - it wasn't quite alone but a night where someone else was taking care of the kids was very much appreciated anyway!

Glad you've enjoyed this ROS. I had to do a quick redecoration of the court room, because I realised I had no table for the counsel! So I'll have to redo it next time I go in, of course, because I did it while Emil and Rob were there. But I got the pics I needed and resolved this storyline, so that's the main thing!

  4. Aww, Felicity and Patrick are so adorable together. So glad they get along well. That’s awesome that Patience was nominated for the role she didn’t really care for in the first place. Glad she’s moving up the ladder. Hopefully they won’t be bombarded by paparazzi like Matilda was.

I said it at N99 already but I really did love Emil and Anna’s faces during the trial. I don’t know how Emil expected to get off on such a serious charge but at least it’s over with and hopefully he learned his lesson.

Completely random note, the big sandwiches Patience and Rob are eating look yummy! I think I downloaded those the other day.

    1. It's easier to have the kids get along when they're both relatively nice! Felicity and Patrick are a dream.

Patience is probably going to be a bit less interesting to the paparazzi. She was married well before she got famous, so Rob is boring to her. She's likely done having kids, so no bump shots. She's also older than Matilda. But there'll be a bit more interest in her from having a higher profile.

Emil is probably just a tad entitled, so he would have thought justice had been done if he'd been let off with a slap on the wrist. The law does not agree. ;)

Yeah, I went and downloaded almost all of Eris3000's food the other week and the sandwiches were one of the downloads. I think they're the BLT burgers. It all looks delicious, seriously! She makes great food.

  6. I adore Patience and Rob and their family! I really need to expand more on my careers during the updates. I have lots for these things, but seldom do I use them in the updates lol. I loved seeing Emil's court date as well!

    1. I have a ton of lots I still need to do for careers. I wish I could just snap my fingers and have them done exactly as I want them, because that's all that's holding me back. I really love being able to write more things in about the careers. I'm glad others like reading about it too!

  7. I love that you wrote in the chance card! Sometimes taking a risk you're really not sure about pays off.

LOL at Anna glaring at Emil in the courtroom. What did he expect? Silly old man should have known better! Poor Rob, getting stuck with that case!

    1. I try to write the chance cards in when I can. Sometimes they're too silly or I don't have the lot I'd need to pull them off and I just have to ignore them though!

Rob got promoted to Family Law Attorney this round and I'm sure he's thrilled he won't run across Emil and Anna again in that line of work!

      Thanks for reading and commenting!

  8. This is a perfectly petite little family. I think the two kids fit well with their careers, being that both of them have high-demanding jobs. I could see them logically, decide that this was plenty. And besides they are such cute kids! I love that Felicity plays so well with Patrick, those pics are darling.

Emil, oh boy! What a stinker! Anna's expression is classic! You can just feel her anger!

    1. Yes, you're right about that. Every time I think about Rob and Patience, the more it seems that two children is just perfect for them, in more ways than one.

Felicity is very sweet with Patrick. I was just doing my play schedule for next round and realised he'll be joining her at primary school next time around! He turns 4 in the second half of the year - can't believe it!

I think Anna was boring holes into the back of Emil's head in that courtroom, lol!

  9. I am glad things are going so well for Rob and Patience! It is nice that her career is starting to take off. I love the courtroom scenes!Emil really should count hismself lucky. It could have been so much worse.

    1. It was a bit strange that Patience's career has taken so much longer to take off than Matilda's but it's happening for her, at long last. :)

I really want to go in and fix up that courtroom, so I can do even better scenes if this kind of thing comes up again. Emil definitely got off easy and should thank his lucky stars (or Rob, lol!)
