I've got a feeling

Round 33: June 2038 (Winter)

last update/next update

Liam Weaver is 75, Jonas Lachance is 60, Tatiana is 55 and Brendan is 15.
(Jacob is 37, Dominic is 28, Leslie is 27, Audrey is 26, Edward is 23 and Caitlin is 15)
Narrated by Tatiana Lachance

Brendan has been so moody lately. He’ll be in a fantastic mood in one instant…

…and then sulking and in a foul mood the next.

Dominic, Audrey and Edward weren’t really the sulky types, so this is all a bit new to me.

Jonas thinks it’s just hormones and that a lot of teenagers go through phases like this. I hope he’s right.

I’m really missing my little boy, although he hasn’t been “little” for quite a while now.

Since last September, he’s been dating Caitlin so I think I might have to accept that he’s growing up.

At least I know Caitlin isn’t causing the moodiness. She’s always very bright and cheerful when she’s over here.

I like her a lot. She and Brendan have been friends since they were tiny, so Caitlin has always been a frequent visitor.

But I really like all my kids’ partners. I think they’ve all chosen well and they’re all welcome here whenever they like.

I’m definitely closest to Leslie. We’ve always had a lot in common, apart from Dominic, so we clicked right away.

We work together now as well, so we share yet another link. At the beginning of this year, Leslie took over my class at Sullivan Primary.

I miss being in the classroom sometimes but it was getting harder and harder to teach and fulfill all my duties as principal, like meeting with parents of future students…

…and a lot of administrative work! But not being on class any more, I actually get to leave at a decent hour every day.

I’ve even been able to take a few days off, just because. I sometimes used to force myself to go in when I was sick, just because I knew how much work I had to get done.

I usually bring home a little work to do but it’s worth it to be able to lounge around in my pyjamas!

Spending a bit of quality time with Liam has been lovely too.

These days, I feel better when there’s someone at home to keep an eye on him. Jonas has flexible hours at the arcade, so it’s usually him.

Otherwise, Liam tries to do all the work on the farm on his own. He’s much too old for that now but he won’t admit it.

Liam has always been so stubborn though. He’d gone out to tend to our vegetables while Jonas and I were at work and collapsed before he was done.

Brendan came home from school and found him unconscious. He snapped into action right away, went with Liam to the hospital in the ambulance and started calling the family.

I don’t know if I could have handled it all as well as he did. He was so mature and responsible about everything.

Jonas and I got to the hospital and at about the same time and the whole family was already there.

Not that they’d let us all in Liam’s room at the same time. Most of the family spent almost the whole time in the waiting room.

In the room, it was just Jacob and me in there for most of the time, just waiting. I think we were both hoping for the best but expecting the worst. It wasn’t the first time we’d taken Liam to hospital in the past couple of years and I think Jacob and I were both scared our luck might have run out.

Dr. Novak, the emergency room doctor, confirmed our worst fears. They would do all they could to make Liam comfortable but that it was probably time to say our goodbyes.

It wasn’t long after that Liam just slipped away.

Brendan is taking his grandpa’s death really hard. He’s mostly been holing himself up in his bedroom.

When he emerges from his room, it’s only ever to study. He’s completely thrown himself into his school work and doesn’t have an interest in much else at all.

I was stunned when he told me and Jonas that he and Caitlin had broken up.

He said he just didn’t feel “that way” about her any more, so he thought it was for the best.

The poor girl was apparently quite upset by it. It seemed very sudden, so I’m not surprised.

I desperately wanted to ask Brendan if maybe he’d acted too rashly. Liam only just died; it’s natural that Brendan’s mind might not be on dating at the moment.

I refrained though and decided to just be supportive. I know how well my attempts to ask too much about Brendan’s personal life usually go, so I can imagine how he’d react right now. I just hope he doesn’t regret ending things with Caitlin, once some time has passed and things don’t look quite so bleak.

It’s so hard to imagine that though, at least for me. I’m having trouble dealing with Liam being gone as well.

My real dad was never around much and even though he didn’t marry Mum until I was 12, Liam was the only dad I’ve ever known. He never had a daughter, so I like to think he saw me as his own as well.

I know the kids all saw him as their grandpa too and he always talked about having six grandchildren: Jacob’s kids, Daphne and Iris and my four.

They’re all feeling it too. There’s a big absence in all of our hearts now that Liam is gone. I’m glad our family is so close, because it really does help to have everybody around.

I’ve taken a little time off work. I just need to have a few days where I don’t need to worry about anything but myself and my family.

It will be a while before I start to feel normal again but hopefully, I can get to a more functional place before I go back to school.

Notes:
  • Title is from I've Got A Feeling by the Beatles.
  • RIP Liam! :( I hadn't had to kill off any of my Sims in so long - the last one was Caterina, six Sim years ago and more than one year ago in real life! I normally do obits but there's not much to say for Liam, as a former townie who only ever had one child and never really got mixed up in any drama. I became oddly attached to him though, considering all that and I was sorry to let him go.
  • Brendan rolled the ROS this round to change his aspiration and went from Family/Knowledge to Knowledge/Family. I couldn't really see him as anything else. But that did knock down his attraction to Caitlin, hence the break-up. They seem like they're better off as friends to me anyway. But the ROS allows me to change Brendan's aspiration back if I want to and if they want to get back together at that point, then I'll reconsider. ;) Sometimes my Sims know better than me. At the moment though, neither of them seem particularly fussed about each other romantically.

  1. Poor Liam! I am not at all surprised that he was trying to do all the farm work himself. What a shame that poor Brendan had to be the one to find him, though. :(

I can't believe it's been that long since you've killed off a sim! The lifespan in Sullivan is truly an epic one. Maybe I should move there... ;D

I am sad about Brendan and Caitlin. I will be interested to see if they end up back together or if this truly is for the best.

    1. Liam was a pretty independent sort of guy. And Brendan was probably the closest with him, seeing it's been just him, his parents and Liam at home for several years now.

I know, I had a huge break from killing Sims! But it's going to start happening on a more regular basis from now on though. I know there's at least one elder death coming up next round too. I have some Sims set to live until their 90s but some won't be so lucky, so it's quite a range.

I'm not sure about Brendan and Caitlin myself. I can see them working their way back to being close friends again though, at the very least. We'll see what happens.

    2. I felt so bad for Caitlin crying over the break up :( and Liam's death :( :( I can see a close knit family like this taking it hard. For some reason I thought Tessa was your last death, I still miss her. Strange that it might have been her sitting at the table with Tatiana instead of Leslie.

    3. Yeah, I felt pretty bad for Caitlin too. :( You know how much I love her!

This family did really love Liam but I think the fact that they're all so close will help them through it. I hadn't thought about Tessa sitting at that table but you're right. Had she not died, it's very possible it would have been her sitting there with Tatiana. Tessa's death feels like a long time ago and not so long ago at the same time.

  2. Despite the fact that there wasn't much to tell in an obit, he sure will be missed! How sad that Brendan was the one who found him, it's not something you should be dealing with when your 15.
I'm Liam saw Tatiana as his daughter as well!

Poor Caitlin, she looks so heart-broken! I hope they can work things out and be friends again, if that's something they both want!

    1. I had to go into the Lachance house again last night to send Tatiana to the primary school and it was very strange to not see Liam around. :( He'll be missed for sure.

I think Brendan and Caitlin will eventually want to be friends again, at the very least. It would be even sadder to throw away their friendsm seeing it's been over 10 years now.

  3. I'm so sad Liam died! I know we never saw too much from him but he seemed like such a sweet guy. He will be missed by his family for sure! I can't believe its been quite so long and that the last death was Caterina- that seems so long ago now.
Brendan did make me laugh with his mood swings this round. Sounds pretty typical. I'm sad he and Caitlin broke up but I hope they will stay good friends! And hey, maybe they will get back together...
I'm glad things have eased up for Tatiana at work- it couldn't have come at a better time really! Such a sad update though!!

    1. Liam was a good guy but he was very gruff and no-nonsense too. Somehow, he was still quite loveable though. ;)

Ha, poor Brendan. Being a teenager is hard, as is being a parent of one! There's no anger on either side with Brendan and Caitlin, so hopefully they'll work their way back to being friends. And maybe get back together one day. Who knows?

This update was a bit of a downer! But we hadn't one in a while. :\

  4. Aw, it all started so light-hearted with sulky teenage Brendan and his cute romance with Caitlin that Liam dying is that much sadder. :( And I can't believe it's been six years since the last death! Such a large gap.

    1. Yeah, I never know how to start off the updates where there'll be a death, so I tend to just jump right in however I can, lol! It can make it a bit jarring though. ;)

When I first switched over to this aging method and started noting the deaths, this no-death gap felt like it was so far away! I wasn't even sure I'd ever get to it. And now I'm past it. It's a bit sad to know I'll have to start killing off Sims more frequently now. I'm heartbroken about a few deaths coming up in the next few years. :(

  5. Aww, not Liam. I like his name since I have a Liam too. ;) Wow Brendan and Caitlin, didn't see that coming. But their in high school, boyfriends and girlfriends come and go. Maybe they will get back together in the future.

    1. I liked Liam (and his name!) a lot too but it was his time, sadly. :(

Brendan and Caitlin weren't together very long, unfortunately. Just under a year. But that's a fairly realistic timeframe for a high school couple. We'll see if they start to miss each other and want to get back together eventually.

  6. Awww :( RIP Liam! Liam was a good guy raising Tatiana as his own. Once I read the line about “keeping an eye on him”, I was like “oh crap”. That had to have been tough on poor Brendan to find him lying there. I thought it had been a while since a sim died in your hood but didn’t realize it was 6 sim-years. And now it’ll be happening more often :\.

And now Brendan and Caitlin broke up! Too much sad news in one update. She looked so heartbroken. But maybe he’ll be more attracted to Georgina (or is it Annabel?) now that his aspiration changed.

    1. And Liam was younger that Tatiana's mother, so he was young to take on the father figure role for a 12-year-old but he did it. He was a good man. Killing off Sims sucks. :(

I'm hoping Brendan and Caitlin can remain friends now. I don't think Caitlin is the grudge-holding type. If Brendan is more attracted to one of the Nott twins now, it will likely be Georgina, as she's Knowledge. He'll probably be less attracted to Annabel, because she's Pleasure. But we'll see what happens. :)

  7. Oh, this is so sad! Liam was such a great guy. How awful for Brendan to find him like that. I hadn't realised it was that long since the last death in Sullivan although I've noticed there haven't been any for some time now.

Too bad Brendan and Caitlin broke up but it's great if they can still be friends. And they can always get back together if they want to.

    1. Yeah, I really liked Liam. :( It'd been so long since someone had died, yet it still felt too soon. I'm going to have to get used to it again though.

Getting back together is always an option. It depends on what Brendan and Caitlin themselves seem to want. Personally, I didn't see them lasting too long anyway but Sims have proven me wrong before. ;)

  8. I'm sad. I think I liked Liam because he was so drama-free. I thought about the beginning pic though and couldn't help but think, "He's still alive?" It's fitting though that he passed at about the same age that Arianna did.

    1. 75 will start to seem on the younger side for my Sims, once we get to all the elders I have who will live into their late 80s and early 90s! Liam had a decent run though and really, he lived a very happy life. It seems rare for my Sims to not even have a minor drama to live through! Arianna died, of course, but that's not something that can be avoided at all.

  9. Sad that Liam passed, that's gotta be hard for Tatiana and the rest of the family to lose him. I hope that Brendan will start to do better once he gets past the shock of the loss. I didn't see him and Caitlyn lasting forever but was equally shocked to see him end it now, especially so soon after Liam's death. I like Tatiana in the role of principal, with Leslie working with her now, that's a nice little work/family relationship, and I think Leslie fits teaching kids, she has that look about her.

    1. Liam's been there for this family for almost 40 years now, so him suddenly not being there is tough for them all.

I never saw Brendan and Caitlin last long either. Given his aspiration change (and the fact that they weren't rolling many wants for each other), it seemed like the time for them to break up. I hope they can be friends again some day.

I love how well Tatiana and Leslie get along. They're quite similar, so I can imagine them working well together.

  10. Aww, that is sad about Liam. It has to be hard to kill off Sims after having them around for so long. Not much happy news in this one, with the break- up too.

    1. The update turned out more depressing than I was expecting! It's been such a long time since anyone has died and I wasn't used to feeling that way. I was glad to get a change of pace by playing the primary school next.
