Fleshing out and reorganising Exeter

I promised a little while ago that I would post pics of how Exeter looks now and I'm finally getting around to it! As always, click for a larger view. Here we go...

This is where Naomi's salon is situated. It's right next to Orchard (the restaurant surrounded by lots of greenery in the middle there) on one side and the thrift store Betsy and Kimberly went in their last update. Which is sort of strange, come to think of it. The building closest to us with the large flat roof is a supermarket.

This is right near Exeter Beach. The yellow building is Jace's new shop, the small black one is Elias's. The little bar in between them is The Ball & Biscuit and the bar behind Elias's shop is The Old Brick. The two big buildings are H&M and P.U.R.E (a club, if anyone out there doesn't have NL).

Also near the beach is the Japanese restaurant Dragonfly and the juice bar.

This whole street is mostly diners and restaurants. Julian's is the skinny restaurant on the left. The wide buildings are the bowling alley and the gym and they're the only non-eating places on this street. Closest to us with the red roof is the Drapers' house. There's a drive-in at the very back. It's seriously awesome looking (so obviously I didn't build it!) but I haven't used it in any updates yet.

I'm not so happy with this area. But the wedding chapel is on the far right and there are a couple of stores on the left. This street runs perpendicular to the street where the high school is.

And here's the school (with the simolean sign above it). They've got a soccer field and athletics track out back now, courtesy of Criquette at MTS2. To the left is a sports park, and further to the left is Blue Velvet, a club which is kind of out of place. To the right of the school is a library and art gallery.

The Clarkes (on the left) and Gottliebs (on the right, duh) live in these two houses. On the other side of the trees is a scummy bar. The building on the end of the street is another supermarket.

Purely residential here. All the apartment buildings have been moved here, if they weren't here already.

Anyway, there you have it. I actually think the effect is better from inside some of the lots and you'll continue to see that as I play. But it's nice to get a feel for who lives close to who and what shops are where too, so I hope you enjoyed my little tour.

  1. That all looks so good! I've thought of making a proper little city, but I don't think I could make it look so good.

I bet the views from windows are stunning.

((Also, LOL! My word verification word is "undumbs"))

  3. I agree, it looks awesome! It's also reminded me to get in my 'hood and put all those details back in. They really do make a difference. Also I love that you have a "scummy" bar in the residential part of town. Makes sense, atleast in my small town! And the whole school set up is cool too.

  4. Thanks everyone! I don't think my downtown looks fabulous from the hood screen but I'm happy with it. And it DOES look fabulous from most of my lots, which is much more important.

The best single neighbourhood decoration you can use, in my opinion, is the round skyscraper Maxis gave us with NL. It lights up at night and you can see the effect from the hood screen (if you switch it to night) and the lot. I have to stop myself from using it everywhere.

  5. Oh this was a wonderful tour! Thanks so much for sharing the layout with us! One of these days, I'll get to working on customizing my Downtown, SimCity, and my other attached hoods, like vacation spots, etc. I'm not a builder by any means, but I can knock it out if I only took the time. You've put a lot of love into Exeter, and it clearly shows.

  7. Thanks for the tour!! I've noticed your city now for a while within the updates, and it does look good. It is always fun to see the layout, though, and I love how you've done it. You have a lot of unique businesses too.

  8. Thank you!

I have all the wonderful lot builders out there to thank for my businesses. I've built very few of my community lots myself.

  10. Thank you. It's a work in progress though. I usually add a little bit to it every time I roll around to playing the Exeter families again.
